Mrs. Williams 3rd Grade News
September 13-17
Important Info & Reminders
- Candy Man orders due Sept. 14
- Please help remind your child to charge his/her laptop each evening so it is ready for school.
- Sept. 19-26, is the Scholastic Book Fair. Be on the lookout for more information!
- Checked/Graded work- I will send work that is checked/graded home with students on Fridays if we have loose papers. Most work at this time is in students' work books (math, reading) and journals which stay at school for daily use. You may stay informed of your child's grades by logging into PowerSchools. *Please know that at this time there are not many grades because of the many beginning of year assessments (detailed information about each assessment will be sent home when available). I will post some assignments there soon so you know how your student is progressing.
What We Are Learning
Reading- Our class text is The Wind in the Willows, and our focus is Theme and Point of View.
Word Study- Long A patterns: ai, ay, a_e
*Spelling Lists will now be different based on individual student needs. All lists will have the same focus pattern, but there are 3 sets of words.
*All students will learn 5 “High Frequency” words. This week’s words are: with, from, have, what, were
Math- Multiplication Strategy- Split Numbers to Multiply
Social Studies- Government: We will learn about branches of government with a focus on local government. We will learn about how local government serves citizens and how citizens contribute to their community and its environment.
Online Learning at Home
If you would like a packet of the worksheets (that match what is online), please let me know. We are able to place these at the front of the school for pick up at your convenience.
If your child is unable to complete work due to illness, I understand and want for the focus to be on rest and recovery to be healthy! When your child is well, I can help your child catch up on school work.
Homework
Students write homework in their agenda each day.
Read 20 minutes each day. Please use the agenda as a Book Log to record what your child is reading daily. (This is new, and I will help explain to students what to do.)
iReady Math- 45 minutes per week
*I will begin rewarding students each week for their hard work in iReady as positive encouragement. Since each students’ “My Path” lessons are based on their individual learning needs, each student has lessons at their individual learning level.
Word Study- The list is glued in the agenda weekly. Please have your child practice the words during the week. Our quiz will be on Friday.
Multiplication Facts- Students should use their cards to practice their facts daily. We will begin quizzes on facts by September 17th so students can show what they know!
