Coronavirus Update - March 13, 2020
This information was shared with WCS stakeholders on March 13 -- In partnership with local, state and federal health agencies, WCS is monitoring information and updates about the coronavirus. At this time and based on recommendations from the Governor’s Office, the Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC, our schools will remain open.
Before and after school care, daycare programs, tutoring and the Evening Academy will also continue on a regular schedule. While our schools remain open, we are making the following changes: effective March 13 at 11:59 p.m. all field trips, competitions and non-instructional after school activities and events have been cancelled through April 30. Thank you for your support as we work together to navigate this issue. Additional information can be found on our district website at this link. We will be back in touch with more information if there are updates that pertain to our schools. If you have any questions, please contact WCS Director of Public Relations Amber Lynch at 399-7712.

Why I Teach - Luke Hancock
Position: Chorus Teacher at Beddingfield HS
Total Years Teaching: 10 years
First Teaching Position: My first teaching position was at both South and West Edgecombe Middle Schools teaching General Music and Chorus
College Attended: East Carolina University...GO PIRATES!!!
Why I Love Wilson County Schools: Wilson County Schools is SO supportive of the arts and specifically choral music. We are incredibly lucky to have such a strong tradition of three great choruses in the county, and I feel so lucky to be able to work with such incredible students at BHS every day. They truly are THE BEST!
Favorite Quote: “A teacher has two jobs; fill young minds with knowledge, yes, but more important, give those minds a compass so that that knowledge doesn't go to waste.” - From Mr. Holland's Opus
Other Interesting Facts: I am originally from a small town in the mountains. I have lived in Greenville for the last 14 years (minus one year in Rocky Mount). I have two adorable dogs, am a roller coaster fanatic and I live for the beach! I also conduct Eastern NC’s largest community high school choir - the Greenville Choral Society Youth Chorale, which is made up of roughly 40 high school students from across the region.
Why I Teach: I teach because it’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. Growing up, I always loved helping other students in my classes but leading the marching band as drum major in high school solidified that I wanted to be in front of an ensemble teaching music for the rest of my life. I love watching students from all walks of life come together for the common goal of making music, and I love watching them grow not only as musicians, but as people in the process!

Spreading the word about the 2020 Census
Shout Out! to our local city and county officials who are working hard to inform citizens about the 2020 Census. Starting March 12, cards for the 2020 Census will be mailed out. It takes less than 10 minutes to answer the census questions. In Wilson County Everyone Counts...so respond early so that a census worker will not have to visit your home in person. This year you can complete the census:
- online at 2020census.gov
- by phone (phone number to be given)
- by mail (instructions will be provided)
