JIGSAW - THE MINDFUL APPROACH TO PSHE
This week we have launched our new whole school PSHE (Personal Social Health Education) programme, ‘Jigsaw’ which focuses on children learning about themselves as individuals, respectful relationships, keeping healthy and staying safe including on-line safety. Each half term children from Reception to Year 6 will focus on a different topic at an age appropriate level. This half term the focus will be ‘Dreams and Goals’.
Throughout the series of weekly lessons children will have the opportunity for self-reflection and at the heart of the programme is an understanding of mindfulness. As the term/year progresses we will be reviewing our Relationships Policy and will be consulting with you with regard to this.

Well done to all the children (and Miss Bee and Mrs Wright) who took part in the Santa Dash before Christmas.

Clothing Donations:
If you are having a post-Christmas clear-out, please consider donating any of the following items to raise money for the school at future sales events:

Please leave any donations with the school office or with your PTA class rep.
Help us to help your child do better at school
I am writing to you as a parent or guardian of a child who is in reception, year 1 or year 2. As I am sure you will know, all pupils in these year groups are now able to receive a school meal at no extra cost. Choosing a school lunch for your child or children will save you up to £400 a year regardless of your family income.
While all children in these year groups will be receiving a free school meal, if you are on a low income our school can receive an additional £1,320 Pupil Premium Grant per year to help us help your child to do better, here at our school.
So even if your child doesn’t take the free meal, or your child gets a free meal because they are currently in reception or Key stage 1, you should apply now if you haven’t already.
Radio 2 500 Word Challenge
Next week, Years 4, 5 and 6 will be taking part in BBC Radio 2’s live lesson giving them top tips to become successful writers. Following this, the children will get the opportunity to submit their own 500 word story via ourselves to Radio 2 where they will be judged by teachers and librarians nationwide.
KS1 Musical Evening Story
Dear Parents/ Carers of Reception and KS1 children,
We are delighted to invite you to our Musical Bedtime Story event on Wednesday 22nd January, at 5 pm in the school hall.
With a live story-telling of ‘The Bear and The Piano’ by Mrs Smith, accompanied by a live performance of contemporary piano music by Miss Rowley, we hope that this fundraising event will be enjoyable for all.
To develop the arts education we can offer, we are fundraising to buy more instruments for music within school. To help us with this, adults and children will need to pay entry at £2 each. Please use ParentPay to make your contribution and let us know how many people will be attending.
As well as your entry to the performance, your contribution also pays for a hot chocolate, with marshmallows, and a biscuit each.
Due to limitations of space, siblings in KS2 will not be able to attend, but we hope to offer a similar event for KS2 children and their families in the near future.
Please feel free to bring your child in their pyjamas.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Reading Books at Home
There seems to be a sudden shortage of grey and brown level reading books at school. Please could you have a good look at home to see if there are any school books to be returned?
Rotary Shoeboxes
A huge thank you from the JLT to everyone who donated a shoebox. These are currently in the school entrance, awaiting collection. Your generous contributions will help to make the life of a much less fortunate child better.
Special School Meal
On Thursday 23rd January, there will be a special meal day. It will be Pizza Day, where the menu will be pizza slice, diced potatoes, peas and sweetcorn followed with chocolate ice-cream and banana sundae for dessert.
If you pay for your child’s meals the cost will be £2.30 payable on ParentPay.
Adverse Weather
I really hope we do not need to do this!
However, if a situation occurs where adverse weather may cause a school closure I would like to confirm we will communicate this via—
* Text Message
*Local Radio Station Announcement (Radio Leeds)
* School Website

Flu Catch Up Clinic
Did your child miss being vaccinated against flu in the recent session held in school? If so there will be a clinic at Selby North Children’s Centre, Flaxley Road, YO8 4DL on Monday 20th January between 3.30-4.45pm. It is a DROP IN clinic so no appointment is necessary and you don’t need to take anything with you. There is also a FLU health bus which will be parked at the Askham Bar Tescos, YO24 1LW this Saturday 11th Jan between 10-2pm. It is a DROP in clinic for primary school age children who are still outstanding their flu vaccination. Again no appointment is necessary.
