Student technology return
At the end of the school year, students will be turning in their district-issued Chromebooks and iPads. Students attending CCSD 89 summer school will keep their technology, so that it can be used for summer classes. In-person learners will turn in their technology, charging cords, and carrying case/bag on the last day of school, Tuesday, May 25.
Remote learners need to come to Westfield to turn in these items on Wednesday, May 26, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. If remote learners are not able to turn in technology on May 26, please call the main office to make alternate arrangements. Report cards and MAP scores will not be released until the technology is turned in.
Second grade only: All iPads need to be returned. Students attending summer school will keep the Chromebook but not the iPad.
May 25 - In-person technology return (except summer school students)
May 26 (8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) - Remote technology return

Families who need remote learning in 2021-22 must request form by May 25
CCSD 89 families can plan for a return to a traditional schedule with five full days of in-person learning during the 2021-22 school year. Remote learning will only be available next school year to students who have certification from their physician that they require a medical exemption. Families must request the medical exemption form from the principal or school nurse by Tuesday, May 25. The form requires a physician to certify the student’s medical need. The completed form must be returned to the district office (22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn) by June 25. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3hDrRFE

Orchestra for the 21-22 school year
If your child will be in 4th or 5th grade for the 2021-2022 School Year:
We are inviting your child to be part of our fantastic orchestra program here in District 89! We are very excited to be back and in person teaching in the elementary schools this coming school year and we cannot wait to see all of our students in person again! If your child will be in 4th grade or in 5th grade in August, they will be eligible to learn an orchestra instrument for the first time. Students who chose to learn as 4th graders in 2020-2021, will also be continuing with us too!
This past week, we showed the following video to all of the students in their classroom (https://youtu.be/7XhqzZeB1hg) and we passed out a sign-up and information form (if you don't have it, then you can sign-up on this Google Form: https://forms.gle/ipX5DjU4ur8Cn2KH6). The students seemed very interested when we visited and asked many, many great questions!
Please fill out the form if your child is interested. We'll reach out to you in August with more information and have some events to help you decide upon registering. Until then, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Have a great summer!

Congratulations Mileage Club
123 Students participated
Total Miles Traveled:1,108 miles
Destination: Kunming, China.
Kunming is a large city in southern China. People like to visit Kunming because of its beautiful landscape with lakes and mountains and year round spring-like weather.
We are now a little more than ½ way around the world since we started Mileage Club in 2014 and ½ to meeting our goal of collecting enough miles to travel around the world.
Grade levels with the most miles traveled:
3rd: Second grade 178mi
2nd: Kindergarten 263mi
1st: 3rd grade 290mi
Congratulations to all our club members this season! We know that it was difficult to find the time to participate from home. I am looking forward to next year when hopefully we can have a Mileage club during the school day. Thank you for participating and have a great day!
