Shout Outs!
Thank you to Al for jumping right in and hooking us up with some technology to help keep our students engaged when we were out of our classroom for a while one day this week! The students loved it and it was a real lifesaver for us! - Amy and Ashley
Thank you Mike Wood for jumping in on Tuesday to assist students and admin when it was a BUSY day at the Farm.
I’d like to give a shout out to the entire staff. Iesha Scott, one of WVEC’s Meteorologist, was a guest speaker at the ECO Club meeting yesterday. The club members did a great job of listening and being respectful of others during her visit. The shout out part to staff comes from what she said to Mike Kennedy, one of the club volunteers, on her way out of the building. She told Mike that she does this kind of talk two to three times a week. She continued by saying how well behaved the group was and that our students asked her questions that she had never been asked before! To me, that says that our students made connections that others had not and then asked their new questions. Even though we may not see how our students apply what they have learned to do, others notice! Well done! - Anne B.
Discipline Assistance
If, when you call for help, your student simply needs a time out or walk around the school, please let us know when we arrive to assist. Beyond that, we expect a discipline referral. The only exception is if a child is identified special education and the behavior is manifested by the disability. In that case, we need to consult with the special education case manager as to whether the office visit will be data collection or a discipline referral.
When a child visits the office, it is the administrator's responsibility to call the parent, but lately we have not been able to be as timely with those calls because we do not have the full story of the behavior. Please circle back around to the administration at the end of the day if one of your students visited the office but you didn't get a chance to fill Patti or Teri in all the way. This will help us make sure we keep parents in the loop and work together as a team to support one another.
One final thought...any student making a threat to harm the school must be referred to the administration for us to document and determine whether the threat is credible or not. Thank you all for your help in this!
