Principal's Message
Hello Patriots,
Dr. Martin Luther King stated , "...(People) will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." During this year's Black History month, let's contemplate what can we do to make our school community a better place for all. Each person may have a story to tell about how they might have been treated differently because of a bias. As human beings we need to pull for one another and find what binds us together. Together we are stronger and we make the human experience better for all. It starts simply by connecting with others and finding the good in each person. This builds the dignity of each person and a strong school community. I am so proud of the work our students, parents and teachers have done to make everyone welcome and create an atmosphere of acceptance and enlightenment.
Have a restful vacation and I look forward to see all of you after the break.
Mr. A

New Mask Policy -Effective March 7th
On Monday evening, the School Committee voted to approve these revisions to our district masking policy. Here is a summary of this revised policy:
- Once the Executive Order expires the Portsmouth School District will strongly recommend that all students, staff, and visitors mask indoors but not require it.
- The Superintendent will have the ability to institute a temporary measure (such as full masking) if a case outbreak or unforeseen situation occurs in a classroom, school, or the district until such time as Dr. Kenworthy has the opportunity to bring any further recommendations forward to the School Committee.
- Any Executive Order regarding masking would supersede this policy without requiring us to make any changes to this policy while the order is enacted.
- The same thing holds for any state or federal order related to school buses. The federal order requiring masks on all forms of public transportation, including school buses, will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.
- Lastly, the Executive Order mandating masks in all K-12 schools is in place through March 4th. This policy will go into effect on March 7th.
Moving forward, all other COVID-19 mitigation strategies will remain in place until further notice. We will ensure that the personal preferences of individuals and families regarding masking are respected as we enter this next phase of the pandemic.
Portsmouth Prevention Coalition
Plant a Tree
The PHS Green Club, in collaboration with Tree-Plenish, are looking to plant enough trees in April to offset the paper used in a year at Portsmouth High School. Last year we planted 275 saplings with a goal this year of 300. Access our website here to choose and order your saplings. The first 200 are free!! Donations to TreePlenish (or the Green Club) are appreciated! Deadline to purchase is March 5th.
Trees you purchase can be picked up or planted by volunteers on April 9th. Eventually we will be in need of volunteers so be sure to check back on the site to sign up to help plant.
