Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter
January 16, 2015
What is going on?
Math: Students will continue working on word problems that involve 3 digit numbers and/or two step procedures. They will strengthen their ability to compute addition and subtraction problems.
Reading: We will begin to distinguish the topic from the main idea of our nonfiction reading.
Writing: In Writing Workshop we will be learning how to create persuasive letters. We will be trying to convince our reader of an opinion or a belief with supporting arguments.
Science: This week students will be learning that the natural world includes Earth materials and will be able to distinguish between natural and man made resources through a variety of learning opportunities. Students will be learning that natural resources come from the Earth and include; rocks, soil, air, and water. Students will be learning that man made resources are materials made from natural resources that have been changed by humans, including; glass, plastic, fabric, lumber, and paper. At home, please continue to support your child by learning the differences between the two types of resources.
If you would like to schedule a conference with me, please let me know. I would like to meet with you in January and early February. Late Feb and March, I will be preparing for our long term substitute.
