Athey Notes

September 26th, 2022

Welcome to Week 5!

Dear Athey Creek Community,

It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces at Curriculum night last Thursday. I appreciate all the positive messages from families who were able to attend the event and connect with their child’s teachers. Welcome back to school!

The school year is fully underway. Club sign ups will be happening soon as well as our first “Home” Cross Country Running Meet this Thursday. This week also features the 6th grade Game Night hosted by our PTSA with keynote speaker, Dennis Dixson (former Duck and NFL professional QuarterBack)!

Thursday will be our first school wide assembly. Each advisory class has been creating demonstration videos that feature our school expectations in various locations across the school. The winning videos will be presented at the Athey Creek Student Expectations Film Festival. We’ll see which advisory classes ‘bring home’ the Gold Cougar Award for their category.

Keep reading Athey Notes to learn more about events and happenings. We look forward to seeing you at Athey Creek!

Sincerely,

Joel Sebastian

ACMS Principal

Introducing Our New Principal's Administrative Assistant

Hello! I’m Kerry and I’m new to the Athey Creek team this year. I’m very excited to work one on one with our amazing students and our learning specialists as a paraeducator. I previously worked in a middle school in Oregon City. I live in the district with my husband and our two children who are twins. The kids are off to college so it’s quieter around the house these days. When I’m not at school, you can often find me walking the hills, paddling on the river or enjoying a hike in the beautiful pnw!

Important Lunch Information

Students are not allowed to order food from restaurants or third party delivery services. Please remind your students that we will be declining all deliveries. If parents wish to send their student food (we understand that lunches can be forgotten and it is not always possible for parents to stop by) then they MUST call the school ahead of time to let us know which service is delivering the food, from which restaurant and your student's name. We appreciate your help in communicating this information with your students. Thank you!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent- Teacher Conferences will be held during the evening of Wednesday, October 12th and the morning of October 13th. Conferences will be in person this year!! Your student will lead the meeting, go over self evaluations, goal setting and you will have an opportunity to ask questions of their advisory teacher. We will be sending out invites to sign up for conferences early next week. Stay Tuned!!!

Sign Up for Robotics!

Hello, ACMS families!

Our long awaited start to our ACMS Robotics club has arrived! Is your student interested in joining us? If so, here's a bit of information about our Robotics Club.

For 6th graders, we partake in the FIRST Lego League program (FLL website: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll).

For 7th and 8th graders, we follow the First Tech Challenge (FTC website: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/ftc)

If your student is interested in participating in the program as listed above, please fill out this Google Form so I know to keep in contact with you.

Our teams are contingent on our amazing parents to volunteer as coaches and support. Meeting days will depend on volunteer availability. I am currently looking for coaches for both the FLL and FTC programs. In that same Google Form for the student sign-up, you may specify if you are interested and available to coach/volunteer for our super teams!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

How to Help Your Student be Successful with Technology

Just a quick reminder to parents that your students should be coming to school every day with a charged school provided chromebook or their own personal laptop. Chargers should remain at home (they are too easily lost and confused with others). Students should also be bringing their headphones or earbuds. Our librarians are overwhelmed with the daily technology requests of students who have forgotten their items. If you can help your student make a plan for charging their devices and remembering to pack them up each night that would be WONDERFUL!
