MAP Testing - Grades 2-5
ALL second through eighth grade students will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment the week of May 10-14. The MAP test is a standardized assessment designed to measure student proficiency of standards and individual growth over time.
The MAP assessment provides our district with important data to drive decision making. This assessment is used to help determine placement in accelerated programs and intervention services. This year’s data will also help us monitor and respond to the effects of the pandemic on student learning. It is very important that ALL of our students take the MAP tests this spring.
Students will take two MAP assessments, one in reading and one in math. Students will be scheduled for two testing days, and the test will take between 60-90 minutes each.
Remote students will be taking the test at school. COVID protocols and social distancing will be followed. A schedule for testing will be shared by Wednesday, May 5. If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact me. We are asking ALL remote students to participate in this important assessment.
Class Sectioning for 2021-2022 School Year
This is the time of year that our staff begins the process of student/teacher assignments for the 2021-22 school year. Your child’s classroom teacher, the grade-level teaching team, all of our specialists, and the administrative team each play a role in the process. We work to place each of the children into the very best setting that we can. We consider learning styles, student personalities, class size, student academic strengths and needs, and we strive for a heterogeneous class makeup (full range of abilities).
While requests for specific teachers are not accepted, you are welcome to submit a letter to Mr. Timmins no later than Friday, May 14, 2021 describing your child’s characteristics as a learner and their needs in school.
Please keep in mind that we will accept the following information from parents:
If an older child in your immediate family had a teacher and you’d like to request that a younger sibling not have the same teacher, please share this information.
If you know that your child must be separated from a specific child to optimize your child’s learning experience, please share this information.
If there is information about your child’s learning style that you feel is pertinent, please share this information.
Please remember: Parental requests for specific teachers or classrooms are NOT accepted.
Factoring in all of the above variables as we create class lists is a delicate balancing act. We take great care with all of this and appreciate your understanding and support as we move through this complex planning process.
