I would like to take a moment and welcome you all to the 2018-2019 School Year. We hope you are ready for a successful year here at Orlando Science Schools.


Our brand new High School building opened with great success and we would like to thank everyone who assisted in making this accomplishment happen! We would also like to thank our wonderful Parent Volunteer Organization(PVO) for their great "ORCA PRIDE" displays at each of our campuses.

Dear Families and Students,


I hope everyone had a wonderful first week of school, and are ready for a successful year!


It has been great to see so many familiar Orcas and welcome new Orcas to the OSS Family! Each week our "Weekly Newsletter" will be sent home via email and may also be found on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Our weekly newsletters are a great resource to stay in the know of everything going on at our Campus. This week's newsletter is filled with many important reminders and announcements so start our year off on the right foot!


This Saturday our Robotics Teams and Science Olympiad teams will host Informational Meeting at our High School Campus, you will find more information under the Upcoming Events section below.


As we end the first week of school, I would like to thank all parents and students for following school staff directions and our dismissal and pick up procedures. This helped a lot to have smooth traffic lanes.


Do not forget to mark your calendars for our 2nd PVO Sponsored Fall Festival on Saturday, October 20th, 2018. Information may be found below regarding details about the festival, sponsorships opportunities and more!

2018-2019 Emergency Forms

Dear Parents and Guardians,


Please be advised that all Orlando Science Students must have a 2018-2019 Emergency Student Information Form on file for the 2018-2019 School Year. These forms are not optional, and per the OSS Handbook ALL students must provide this form whether they are on campus full time or dual-enrolled. You will also find this form on www.orlandoscience.org , select the “Enrollment Form” button located on the navy blue bar on the left-hand side of the web page select the “Enrollment Forms” Link. Please note you will only need pages Five and Six.

Picture Day Volunteers Needed!

The Technology Drive High School Campus is looking for Picture Day Volunteers on Thursday, August 23rd 2018! If you are interested in volunteering and are ADDitions approved please sign up for the opportunity below and select a time slot found in step 3. Parent Volunteers will receive a $35 photo package for their child.

Informational Robotics Meeting-August 18th 2018

2018-19 Science Olympiad Introductory Meeting-August 18th 2018

Dear Orlando Science Families,


The Orlando Science Olympiad Team will have an introductory meeting in Building 3 (High School) cafeteria of Technology Campus at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 18th. It will be for both Division B (middle school) and Division C (High School) In addition to explaining what Science Olympiad is, we will talk about the competitions, study structure, expectations, and 2018-2019 school year events. Students will be given an event selection form at the end of the meeting to choose 3-5 events that they are interested in out of 23 available events. The forms are due Wednesday, August 22nd. About 50 students will be chosen from each division (a total of up to 100), and the studies will begin after the selection. The registration fee is $100 and it will be used to cover some of our numerous costs. If you can’t attend the meeting, please see Mr. Demir (Division C) Ms. Demir (Division B) to pick up a form on Monday, August 20th. Please email, scioly@orlandoscience.org for questions, concerns and/or suggestions.

Join the OSS Parent Volunteer Organization!

Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,


It is time, once again, to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.


If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.

The meeting will be held in the new High School Technology Drive cafeteria on the 2nd floor. Parents from all three campuses are invited to attend and learn more information about the OSS Fall Festival that will take place on October 20. in those Box Tops that you’ve been saving. Please send them to school with your

student to hand into either Mrs. Foley at the Technology High School campus, Mrs. Caggiano

at the Middle School Lynx Lane campus or their homeroom teachers.

Please remember that BOX TOPS are a wonderful FREE way to raise funds for our school. Each Box Top is worth $.10 and really adds up. Please make sure to continuously send these in so that I can mail them before their expiration dates. The monies received go to supporting our Academic and Sporting Teams, the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) along with many other OSS programs and classroom needs. If you would like to learn more about the Box Tops program go to: www.btfe.com . Please register or login today. Make sure that you designate Orlando Science Schools as your school to support, not the elementary.

Upcoming Technology Drive HS Events

First Lego League(FLL) Robotics Information Meeting

Saturday, Aug. 18th, 10am

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics club for 4th and 5th graders, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology and teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams of up to 10 kids, guided by Parent Coaches, program an autonomous robot (using a LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their Project, all while guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements - the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values - make up the yearly Challenge. Parent participation is required. Fees will go towards the kit, registration, and competition fee. A coaches’ training will be held shortly after the club begins to help prepare parents for their roles and responsibilities this year. There will be a parent meeting on August 18th at 10:00 AM at the Technology High School Campus Cafeteria. Fee: $125

FIRST Tech Challenge(FTC) Robotics Informational Meeting

Saturday, Aug. 18th, 1pm

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a robotics club for students in grades 7th – 12th, designed to get them excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and to teach them valuable employment life skills. Following a sports model, teams of up to 15 members design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Parent participation is required. Fees will go towards the kit, registration, and competition fees. A coaches’ training will be held shortly after the club begins to help prepare new mentors for their roles and responsibilities this year. There will be a parent meeting on August 18th at 1:00 PM at the High School Cafeteria.
Fee: $150

FIRST Robotics Competition(FRC) Informational Meeting

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a robotics club for students in grades 9th – 12th, designed to get them excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and to teach them valuable employment life skills. Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $80 million in college scholarships. Parent participation is required. Fees will go towards registration, materials, and competition fees. There will be a parent meeting on August 18th at 1:00 PM at the High School Cafeteria.
Fee: $350
