Principal's Message

Kia ora Whaanau,

Wow it is hard to believe we are almost half way through the term already. Last weekend our Duke of Edinburgh students, and others joined community members in planting 5000 daffodil bulbs along the fence lines around the rugby club and triangle. It will be great to see them in the spring. Thank you to the domain board for organising the event.

We welcome Veneen Williams to our team this term as the new teacher in Room 10. We would like to thank Mrs Corkill for the work she has done in Room 10 while we recruited, she has done an amazing job. We also say goodbye to Linda Harwood at the end of this term, Linda has taken a job at Te Kauwhata and we wish her all the best.

Sometime ago the bus shelter on River road was removed after it was hit by a car. Total Span Pukekohe has now replaced the shelter. It was transported and installed by Knight and Dickey. We would like to thank Total Span and Knight and Dicky for their support of the bus network. It was perfect timing to keep our students dry over winter.

On the 14th of June at 6:30pm we will be holding an Ag day meeting. Ag day requires many volunteers to help set it up and run it on the day. The fabulous work of Kate Reese and her team over the years has meant we are well organised for a new team to take over. Come along and see what it is all about.

Ngaa mihi,

Message from the Board Chairperson

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable Term 2, and looking forward to our OAS Matariki event later in June.

New Members.

We recently welcomed three new members to the board, Derwyn Fail, Ashlea Murphy and Maddison Bradley. Derwyn was selected as our Parent Rep and brings a range of experience having worked in both the public and private sectors, most recently in information security. With the recent changes to the national education learning priorities (NELPS – you will hear more about them soon) the BOT have co-opted Ashley Murphy onto the BOT to leverage her legal expertise and support the BOT and Rebecca in implementing them into OAS over the coming 18 months. We are lucky to have a diverse and dedicated BOT supporting our school and community and Derwyn and Ash are great parent additions. Lastly welcome to Maddison who was successful in securing the role as our Student Rep until September. Maddison has already been working with us around the surveys for our staff, students and community in respect to our strategic direction (keep an eye out for these soon), and I know she will be a positive and constructive student voice for our school.

Positive Behaviour.

At our recent May BOT meeting we discussed the behaviour of our students at the various ages and stages throughout the school. I wanted to acknowledge in particular the Year 10 students who have had an incredibly settled and positive start to the year - and while we are nearly half way through I have every confidence they will continue in this direction. It was pleasing to see a drop in negative behaviour across the various year groups, and recognition of PB4L (positive behaviour for learning) through our Waka cards.

As mentioned please keep an eye out for a survey Rebecca will be sending out to the community which will help shape the strategic direction of the school for the coming years – if you could please set aside 5 minutes to complete the survey we would appreciate it.

Enjoy the long weekend.
