Richards Middle School Meet the Teacher Night (MTTN) Open House is Thursday, September 14th.
Hello RMS families,
Please plan on attending our Meet the Teacher Night (MTTN) this Thursday, Sept. 14th between 6pm-7:30pm.
Our schedule for the evening is as followed:
Enter RMS through door #1 on the Garfield side of the building
6:00pm-6:15pm - Welcome and overview of our MTTN night by RMS Admin. Team in the gym.
6:20pm-7:00pm - Open House format to view your Knights’ 23-24 schedule, we encourage our families to only spend no more than five minutes at each classroom. Each of staff members will also be sending out either a short video or email covering the following:
- Curriculum/competencies covered over the course of the semester/school year
- Students' expectations and materials needed for that designated class
- Grading expectations
- How to contact you/ how our students should ask for assistance when needed
This information will be emailed to you by our teaching staff no later Tuesday, Sept. 12th. Please be mindful that our Meet the Teacher Night does not provide the opportunity for individual parent/teacher conferencing, please follow-up with an e-mail or phone call with any additional questions to that teacher specific to your child.
We will have several RMS student leaders that will be available to answer questions about classroom locations and assist throughout the evening as you navigate the building. In preparation for MTTN, please see our Interactive RMS Building Map
****Families will have the option to leave MTTN at 7:00pm or attend a meeting room for Canvas or PowerSchool Support from 7:05 pm-7:30 pm. Our Canvas or Power School support rooms will focus on how families can sign up for an account or learn how do you navigate these resources. Room numbers for each sessions will be located in your MTTN handout that you will receive when you arrive at RMS on Thursday.

RMS Castle Crew Color Run
We are so excited to launch our First Castle Crew Color Run on Thursday, September 21st. The Color Run is similar to the walk-a-thon format that many of our students participated in during elementary.
We are hoping this will be a successful fundraiser that will generate funds for our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, general student recognition opportunities, and offsetting the costs to enrichment activities like field trips.
Your Knight learned about the Castle Crew Color Run during our first week of school. Below you will find additional information on how you can support our Color Run efforts. Our Knights are working towards individual, classroom, and school wide incentives and rewards.
It is important that your child registers their account and shares the link to family and friends.
Thank you in advance for your support in starting our 23-24 school year!
We have raised $1,985 towards our building goal of $5,000. Thank you to the families who have contributed already.
Health Guidance for Going to School
We want to partner with our families to make our school a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for our students.
Make sure to send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children at home unless they are too sick to participate.
Our district has put together this helpful chart below of when to keep your child home and when they can return to school for common illnesses.
Check the "Student Success Resource" Below for more useful info.

2023-24 Meals Information
Families are still asked to complete the Education Benefits Form, as this information is used for district funding.
Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all students for the 2023-2024 school year.
We encourage everyone to participate. You are still welcome to send your child with a lunch from home if you would prefer.
Honor the Castle by respecting others, modeling responsibility, and making safe choices.
Outside Food and Beverage Policy
Outside food delivery is a safety concern. We do not want to have strangers and people that we do not know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. It also is a workload issue for office personnel. Managing multiple food deliveries during lunchtime becomes an additional responsibility for our office staff.
The District works hard to provide a variety of healthy, good-tasting food in its cafeterias, and students are always free to bring their own lunch to school. We will continue to follow our past practice of making sure students receive lunch if they forget to bring one from home.
Upcoming Events
- RMS Football vs Romeo Middle School 3:30pm(H)
- RMS Cross Country - MAC Jamboree @4:30pm, Stoney Creek Metropark-Eastwood Beach

To provide the most effective process for entering and exiting Richards Middle School, we need our families consistent help in observing the below traffic expectations:
- Our RMS bus loop is only to be used by emergency vehicles and our district’s school buses between the hours of 7:15 am through 4:00 pm.
- To help with our daily traffic flow, please follow our painted traffic arrows in our parking lot.
- In supporting our traffic flow for entering and exiting for all vehicles, please observe no standing, parking, waiting and stopping in the parking lot aisle ways.
- When exiting Richards Middle School at dismissal time, please utilize either our RMS Garfield exit, FHS Garfield exit or FHS Klein exit.
Please be aware of students, families and guests who are walking in our parking lots by obeying traffic laws, regulating your speed, and following the traffic direction arrows. Images can be found below. Please no parking or standing where you see a red x.
Our district security personnel will communicate these expectations to our families when needed. Thank you for your support with keeping RMS a safe travel area for everyone on campus.
PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ADDITIONAL SIGNS ALONG THE DROP OFF LANE TO HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC FLOW!
Attention students who utilize the crosswalk to walk over Garfield Road
This is a reminder to our students to ensure that you are using the appropriate area to cross the street to get to the other side of Garfield. Please see pictures below for reference of our crosswalk signs and striped area by the Richards Middle School Electronic Board. We want our students to make sure they are looking both ways and being aware of vehicles traveling on Garfield. Always wait to cross this crosswalk when the road is clear to do so.
We thank you for always being aware of your safety and traveling vehicles as you arrive and leave RMS at this crosswalk area.
