September 2018 Edition

Red Carpet Opening

The Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions (PBIS) Team welcomed students back to school with a walk on the red carpet. Music played by our own DJ, Mr. Curll, added to the excitement. The PTA added to the experience with popcorn and a selfie station in the cafeteria.

Middle School is a Howl

Mrs. Bartlings Scientists

Ms. Bartling’s scientists are learning to use the steps to the Scientific Method and measure accurately. They had fun trying to figure out what type of soap solution made the largest diameter bubble and graphing the corresponding data.

Mrs. Pino’s 5th Graders

Mrs. Pino’s 5th graders are joining their math and science skills to complete a STEM project! Students are combining their estimation and place value skills with weighing classroom items to find the mass! Students are rounding to the nearest tenths place!

Mrs. Vanderheyden’s Class

8th graders started their first ELA unit The Dangers of Conformity. They participated in a text on text annotation activity identifying setting details and analyzing how they help establish the mood and create conflict in The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Students are learning that setting plays an important role, especially in dystopian literature.

Mr. McLaughlin’s Students

In Mr. McLaughlin’s classroom, students used Chromebooks to take multiple intelligence tests to discover the strengths and weaknesses in their learning styles. Also, they gathered the data to create a graph as young scientists do in the scientific process.

Morning Howlers

The Mullica Morning Howl has begun again this month! 6th through 8th graders have already been working hard on lots of great ideas for this year with Mr. Smith and Mrs. Sheldon. Meetings are held usually on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays after-school, and they film daily first-thing in the morning. Check out each day's broadcast through the Youtube or Twitter feeds that can be found on our schools' website.

Cross Country

The boys and girls cross-country teams started their season in earnest during the first week of school. The teams practiced through the heat and rain both at the school and on their home course at the recreation fields. With a unique combination of talent and heart, both teams started their schedule with a win at their first meet. The teams look forward to their future meets and the challenges that lie ahead with enthusiasm and determination.
