Service Learning in New Orleans
March 21 - 25, 2016
Repairing New Orleans with Tulane University
Service learning and giving back to the community is a fundamental value of Conservatory Prep. This year we want to give back to New Orleans. We are currently working with Tulane University's Center for Public Service to plan a week where our students not only will receive 40 hours of community service, but will learn first hand the different issues concerning the city.
Opportunities will include:
Culture: The importance of Mardi Gras and preparing for next year's festivities
Housing and Environment: Homes in New Orleans are now environmentally friendly. Our job is to change out light bulbs as we learn how to reduce our carbon footprint
Education: Repairing classrooms and schools in low income areas. Then, tour Tulane University and see how this institution has taken a leading role in the area since Wilma.
And of course we will eat at Cafe du Monde, have a walking tour of the French Quarter and ride the Street Car.
Cost is $450 per person plus airfare. Cost includes housing, meals, local transportation, tours and donations to places where we will be volunteering.
