District Wide Professional Development
Planning for the January 6, 2020 Teaching & Learning 2020 district wide professional development day is nearly complete. A schedule for the day and registration is available at https://teachinglearning2020.sched.com/. The day will begin with a general session featuring Superintendent Tim Vanoli along with a preview of our District’s new mission, vision and values work around “Portrait of a Graduate”.
The training for certificated staff is designed to balance professional learning in areas such as Data/Assessment, Mathematics, Education Technology, Professional Learning Communities, MTSS, Student Support Services and more in the morning and school site training and PLC collaboration in the afternoon. Employees will attend two breakout sessions following the short general session.
Classified staff members will attend sessions at Rose Ferrero School with job-alike topics for clerical, food service, MOTF/custodial, instructional aides, pupil supervisor, campus security, health clerk and other staff.

Classified Staff Professional Development
State Dashboard Release
On December 12, the California Department of Education (CDE) released the California School Dashboard, the accountability system for public school districts in California. The Dashboard indicated that the Soledad Unified School District had some areas of growth as well as other areas of decline. A detailed analysis will be presented at the January 8 Board of Trustees meeting.
In summary, the District showed progress for the following indicators:
★ English Language Arts Placement increased for All Students
★ English Language Arts Placement increased for Hispanic Students
★ English Language Arts Placement increased for English Learners
★ English Language Arts Placement increased for Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Students
★ English Language Arts Placement increased for Students With Disabilities
★ Mathematics Placement increased for All Students
★ Mathematics Placement increased for Hispanic Students
★ Mathematics Placement increased for Students With Disabilities
★ Suspension Rate Placement declined for English Learners
★ Suspension Rate Placement declined for Students With Disabilities
★ Suspension Rate Placement declined for Foster Youth
Annual Shoe Drive at San Vicente thanks to the good Samarithan
The annual Caring for Your Own Good Samaritan Shoe Drive was held at San Vicente School on December 11. Students received shoes and backpacks courtesy of Lee & Chris Ramos.

Vision Mission
The District is nearing completion of its new Vision and Mission work: Portrait of a Graduate. The new Vision and Mission will be featured by Superintendent Tim Vanoli at the January 6 district wide professional development opening session. In preparation for the rollout, film crews from the Monterey County Office of Education spent time in our district on December 10 and 12 recording students, staff and parents talking about the Portrait of a Graduate as well as students and staff at work in our schools.
