PUBLIC SAFETY - POSITIVE OUTCOMES - YOUTH ACCOUNTABILITY
Youth Leadership Project To Kick Off in September
The DuPage County Youth Leadership Project (YLP) is a partnership of select members of the DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team, the DuPage County Juvenile Justice Council, and the public health department at Benedictine University. These three groups came together around a common goal: to reduce youth violence and substance use and promote public health in vulnerable communities throughout DuPage County.
During this first pilot year, graduate level interns from Benedictine University will be trained to deliver lessons from the Lions Quest curriculum to approximately 100 youth in three Neighborhood Resource Centers (NRC) in DuPage County. These NRCs provide youth with academic support, life skills, and structured recreational activities throughout the school year and over the summer.
The Lions Quest program is an evidence-based curriculum with solid roots in youth development, violence and substance abuse prevention research, and social emotional learning.
Pilot sites for 2016-17 include:
Henry Hyde Neighborhood Resource Center in Addison
Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream
Timberlake and Main Park at Puente del Pueblo in West Chicago
