Happy Teacher Appreciation
Happy Weekend Spartan Families:
Let's hope that all of the April showers will actually yield the May flowers that have been promised!
It was an eventful week with an extra helping of fun as the SMS Student Council hosted the 2022 Students v Staff Volleyball Match. The very successful 8th grade volleyball teams took on a very nimble and very competitive group of teachers and staff members. In the end, and though most of us are nursing sore knees, hips and shoulders, the staff squad prevailed in dominant fashion.
Next week we look to celebrate our teachers and staff to let them know how much we appreciate all that they do to support and challenge our students each day.
Before you head into your weekend, please take a closer look at the following items a little further down the newsletter...
- Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6)
- Erin's Law Presentation Information (clickable format)
- Student Council ABC Countdown
- The Shepard Spectacular
- Bus Expectations
- Virtual Author Visit
Enjoy!
Mr.C, Dr. Baker and Mrs. Logemann
*Note: Spring MAP Testing will take place on May 3rd and 5th. This is our final round of assessments for the school year.*

Teacher Appreciation Week
We will be celebrating all of our teachers and staff with a little extra fun, food and love during the week of May 2nd. Please join us that week by helping to let our teachers know how much we appreciate everything they do for our students each day.

Bus Expectations
Just a quick reminder that students are assigned to a bus based on where they live and students currently have assigned seats. Due to our current protocols and mitigation plan, we are not allowing students to ride an alternative bus.
Students who plan to travel with a friend will need to make alternative transportation plans (i.e. walk home, bike home, picked up by a parent/guardian, etc.)
Please call our office if you have any questions.
The Shepard Learning Commons (LC) staff is excited to share a wonderful opportunity for our students--a virtual author visit with Jennifer Nielsen hosted by local bookseller, The Book Stall! Ms. Nielsen is a fave among students and staff here and has written many incredible titles such as the 2018 Illinois Caudill Winner, A Night Divided. Her latest book is Lines of Courage and will be made available for purchase through The Book Stall and includes an autographed bookplate! (Books must be purchased by May 23 and will be delivered to our school.)
Students who are interested in attending our virtual author visit in the Shepard LC on Thursday, May 19, from 9:10-10:00 am will need to seek permission from their teacher(s) and arrange to make up any missed work. They also must sign up with their DPS109 e-mail to attend here: bit.ly/authorvisit22
We look forward to this event in our Shepard LC! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Andrea Trudeau
