Marshmallow Challenge

The students who turned in their Book-It (20/20) calendars for the month of September got to do an engineering project with their classmates! It's called the Marshmallow Challenge. The Marshmallow Challenge is a fun and instructive design exercise that encourages teams to experience simple but has lessons in collaboration, innovation and creativity. The task is simple: in eighteen minutes, teams must build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.

The creations our fourth graders came up with were truly amazing!

We started a new unit with a focus on argumentative texts. We began a new project this week of creating a book review. Each student has a different children's book that they are trying to persuade a first grader to read through their writing.

**Ask your child..

What book are you writing a book review about?

What is an argumentative text? (Nonfiction texts that are intended to convince the reader of the quality of a set of ideas or point of view)

Everyday Math

Our Unit 2 Math test will be Monday, October 19th.

***Ask your child with paper and pencil...

What is 345-187? (158)

What is 428 + 297? (725)
