Tardy Sweeps & Gator Expectations
Please see the information below regarding Tardy Sweeps as they will continue until further notice. Students are not permitted to run in order to make it to class before the tardy bell. If they are caught running, they will receive a 2 hour afterschool detention. Parents please know if a student does not attend their detention, they will be assigned ISS. I am aware that these guidelines may appear strict to some, but our students must be in class learning and remain safe.
Parents we need your support! Students need to continue to wear their IDs/Lanyards, arrive to class on time prepared and ready to learn. It is important that they remain in dress code, keep their hands to themselves and be respectful. Please know that we will be tightening up on our discipline procedures. Students who choose not to meet the expectations can assigned: 2 hour ASD, Saturday Detention, Parent Shadowing, ISS and OSS if necessary.
Unfortunately, we have too many students who are not arriving to class on time. This is a safety concern as students need to be supervised at all times. As mentioned we are continuing with our Tardy Sweeps, so please remind your student to arrive to class on time. They have plenty of time to get to there on time.
*Tardy Sweeps Continue*
Students who are not in their assigned classroom at the bell, will be assigned a 4 hour Saturday School Detention. Students who do not attend Saturday Detention will be assigned ISS. Students are aware if they were caught in a Tardy Sweep!

HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, ABUSE, AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION INSTRUCTION
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and Senate Bill 9, students enrolled in junior high physical education (PE) or Athletics will receive instruction in Human Growth and Development. Topics will include the physical changes resulting from puberty, as well as personal hygiene, abuse, abstinence, and prevention of communicable and noncommunicable diseases. Katy ISD junior high school counselors will teach the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence prevention.
The purpose of the curriculum is to provide students with information about how to deal with the challenges of early adolescence and to supplement the efforts of parents as they educate and support their teens.
Under Texas statute, parents must choose to “opt-in” their child to participate in the lessons that address human growth and development, abuse, and violence prevention. Beginning on March 27 through April 6, parents may elect to opt-in their child to participate in the lessons via an electronic link provided by the District.
Below is the opt-in window as well as the time frame when lessons will be taught:
· Parent Opt-In Window - March 27-April 6
· Instruction Window - May 1 - May 19
All lessons are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and meet the requirements that are mandated by the state. Parents have the right to review the curriculum materials on each individual campus by request.
This content is intended to initiate conversations between you and your child about the physical, emotional, and social changes that occur during adolescence. In addition, awareness and education on abuse and violence are key to prevention and intervention. It is a priority for Katy ISD to partner with our families and community to create a safety net for our students.

WAAG (Week At A Glance)
Tutorial Modification & STAAR Academy Begins: 3/20->4/14
We understand the importance of still holding our regular before/after school tutorials for students needing to make up work or participate in reteach. These tutorials will still be held in every content and grade level, but students may receive their instruction from a different teacher. This could also apply to our STAAR Academy students as well. Our focus is to ensure that all students our successful in their learning.
Please know that we are approaching STAAR testing and End of Year Exams which students need to be well prepared to finish out the year. We appreciate your support in ensuring your student attends their designated Academy and/or Tutorial.
