Multiplication Facts

"Ice Cream" for Multiplication

Throughout the rest of the year, we will be learning our multiplication and division facts. Because multiplication and division are inverse operations, studying them together makes the process faster because each division is just finding an unknown (multiplication) factor.

Your child will need to choose someone to be a "homework helper" who will help him/her study the math facts for at least 10 minutes each night. This helper needs to sign the study plan section of the regular homework sheet each night after completing the 10 minutes.

Starting today, the homework helper should also correct the homework and remembering sheets before students return them to school. Before each unit, your child's teacher will email the PDF to you. The answers can also be found on each teacher's Schoology page.

Golden Tickets:

Your child was given a "Golden Ticket" booklet today. This book is golden! DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! It contains all of the multiplication "golden tickets" for the facts that we will learn this year. Each sheet is labeled according to the skill taught in the corresponding lesson. (i.e.. Golden Ticket 7-1 goes with Homework & Remembering 7-1)

This booklet is to be kept at home to practice.

Ways to Study:

  • Golden Ticket Booklet: This lists the facts as "count-bys" and "mixed order". Students can cover the answer and quiz him/herself or have someone read them verbally. There are practice sheets for your child to fill out.
  • Flashcards
  • Apps or Online Games
  • Practice Timed Tests

Ice Cream Sundaes

We will work our way through each of the fact families in the following order: 0, 1, 5, 2, 9, 10, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12. Your child will need to complete each fact family in 1 minute to earn the corresponding ice cream topping or supply. (i.e. A bowl is earned by passing the 0's.) At the end of the year, we will have an ICE CREAM SUNDAE party to celebrate all of our hard work.
