Deer Park Elementary School
What's Happening at the Park during November 2021
MESSAGE FROM MRS. KRAPFL
Congratulations to our Super Students of the 1st Quarter!
For those of you new to Deer Park, here is the criteria for Honor Roll:
K-2 Must have at least 1 E in a content area, no N's, and all S's for behavior and work habits
3-5 Must have all A's and B's in content areas and all S's for behavior and work habitsWe also have a "Principal's, Honor Roll." This is given to students who:
K-2 Have all E's in content and S's for behavior and work habits
3-5 Have all A's in content and S's in behavior and work habitsUPCOMING CHANGES FOR 2022
- An important update; start times for ALL Pasco County Schools will change when we return to school in January, after the winter break. Deer Park’s new and permanent start time will be 30 minutes earlier than right now. So, the first bell will ring at 7:50 to allow students to get out of the cars, enter the gates, and arrive on campus. Bell #2 would ring at 8:00 am to open classroom doors, and the last bell would ring at 8:10, which is the tardy bell. So, all students are expected to arrive by 8:10 am beginning January 4th. Our afternoon dismissal would start 30 minutes earlier, with the bell ringing at 2:20 for our students to be released. More information will come as this affects bus stop times as well as PLACE times. I want families to have the most notice as this may affect your work schedules as well.

REPORT AN ABSENCE ONLINE
Regular school attendance is an essential part of each student's educational program at Deer Park Elementary School. Therefore, we request that you call or report the absence online to the school to inform us if your child is ill or for some other reason your child is not coming to school. You should report whether the absence is for the morning, afternoon, or the entire day. This procedure helps us fulfill required attendance monitoring obligations and helps to assure our students' safety.
For your convenience, we also have an online link for you to report the absence.

SCHOOL CHORUS
- Chorus is up and running since October 19th. The 4th/5th Chorus will practice Tuesday right after school, and we have 31 members enrolled. We have 36 members in the 2nd /3rd-grade chorus, and they meet on Thursday this week right after school. Be sure to plan to pick up in the car loop between 3:45 and 4:00.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthday Celebrations
Celebration Policy
Foods for school celebrations often include unhealthy choices such as cupcakes, candy, cookies, and soda. While there is nothing wrong with an occasional treat, unhealthy foods are often the norm rather than the exception. Our School Board’s Wellness Policy and Procedures 8510 were updated to comply with USDA Local School Wellness Policy requirements and birthday parties and/or classroom celebration food items must now meet USDA Smart Snack Standards and be prepared in a commercial kitchen.
Celebration foods are available to parents to purchase for their child’s class through their school cafeteria- Pasco Smart Snack Celebrations. Please reach out to Ms. Johnson or Ms. Curratelo at (727) 774-8978 at least 2 weeks prior to the celebration. These foods are already Smart Snack approved for ease of access and can be delivered directly to your child’s classroom.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation Smart Food Planner provides a link to Smart Snack compliant products available through Amazon as well as a calculator to check your food labels for compliance. We strongly encourage the use of non-food items for celebrations such as pencils, erasers, stickers, crafts, gardening time, and classroom dance parties to name a few.
