Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
September 16th-20th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week students' Showbie projects are due. They have had 2 1/2 weeks to read the online graphic novel and complete their project. The directions for Showbie is glued into their SS notebooks. They will take a short quiz over their graphic novel Monday or Tuesday. Students will also take their Unit Reconstruction Test on Thursday or Friday. They have a completed study guide in their notebooks that they should be studying to help them prepare. Next week we will start our new unit on Westward Expansion.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week we will wrap up metric conversions with an in-class project where students will apply what they've known to real-life situations. On Thursday we will start comparing and ordering decimals. In ELA we will analyze poems for tone and mood. We will apply the RACER response strategy and practice how to cite evidence and explain our thinking. Students' figurative language advertisement project is due Monday and we will have a quiz over figurative language Thursday or Friday. There is no Junior Great Book story this week. We will also start Word of the Day. Each week we will look at a different prefix or suffix. Throughout the week we will examine 5 different words that contain that prefix/suffix and the definitions of those words. Students will keep these words/definitions in their Word Work Notebooks. Once we reach 20 words, students will take quiz over those 20 words and their meanings.
