How Vaccinations May Impact Attendance Rules
Now that Covid vaccines are available for students as young as 5 years old (which means everyone at Lakeview except our very youngest learners), it is important to start thinking about how vaccination status could impact your child's attendance and quarantine decisions.
Students who have been fully vaccinated would not need to quarantine if they are a close contact unless they display symptoms. This is important to understand as you are making decisions about vaccination. Here is an example:
• A student or staff member is Covid-positive. Any student around that person that is fully vaccinated could keep coming to school as long as he/she does not display symptoms on their own.
That means students that are close contacts but not vaccinated would need to stay home and learn independently online without a virtual teacher while the students who are fully vaccinated could keep coming to school to learn from the in-person teacher, as long as they do not have symptoms.
This also means it is less likely that an entire class will go virtual now, since the teacher will always have at least some fully vaccinated students that could be in school learning.
The term "fully vaccinated" means that the individual has had all the vaccinations (shots) required of the type received, and 14 days have passed since the last vaccination date.
All students, regardless of vaccination status, need to stay home if they have symptoms of COVID19 as defined by the CDC.
Vaccination remains a personal choice for each family at this time. We just need everyone to know the possibilities for students to remain in-person and the changes that will likely result now that vaccinations are available for all students starting at age 5.
Please read this communication about Covid procedures, which was sent to all families by email on Thursday, November 11.

This Week's Golden Lions!
There were 43 (!) Golden Lions awarded to students this week. Here are the descriptions for each of those Golden Lions. Our students demonstrate GREAT character at Lakeview!
• Blake was focused throughout Art class on finishing his collage. He worked hard, used tools, and put away all tools when it was time to clean up. Keep up the great work, Blake!
• James was engaged in creating his Leaf Person throughout Art class. He worked hard! James was also safe with his tools and with his body. Keep it up the great work, James!
• Logan stayed at his seat during Art class, followed instructions, and worked hard to create his Leaf Person sculpture. Keep up the great work, Logan!
• RJ is really great about helping other students in a respectful way during music! Keep up the good work!
• Caleb has been working so hard these last few weeks to make sense of a new math strategy for multiplying large numbers. It has not been easy, but he has continued to work hard and have a positive attitude. Today he finally had a "light bulb" moment and the strategy is starting to make sense. Thanks for being willing to persist even when it's been difficult!
• At the end of the day, Evan stayed behind to pick up some things that were left on our floor from our reading and writing celebrations. Although none of the items belonged to him, he took the time to take care of our classroom. Thanks for being so thoughtful, Evan!
• Ben is an excellent line leader! He reminds the class of proper hallway behavior and takes his job very seriously.
• Nathan worked hard to show much improvement in letter and sound recognition!
• Kaeden worked hard to show much improvement in letter and sound recognition!
• Anastasia listens carefully lessons and presentations.
• Anthony helps other students when they need a little help.
• As Hamish was walking past a student, he noticed that student was struggling with a website. Instead of just passing him by, Hamish stopped and showed him how to fix the problem he had been having.
• The other day Raymond took it upon himself to clean up the garbage on the playground. What a responsible, respectful thing to do. Thank you, Raymond, for helping to keep our playground clean and safe to play on.
• During Math yesterday, students were given a task of representing data on a bar graph and a pictograph and analyzing the data. This task came with high expectations and students needed to use their "grit" to complete it. Mallory was so focused and engaged during this assignment. Way to show the qualities of a great mathematician, Mallory!
• This week students received new carpet spots. Londyn came to me after a few mini-lessons and expressed her concern about the spot she was assigned to. She let me know that she didn't think she could focus in this spot and asked if I could move her. Being engaged in lessons is important to Londyn. Way to take responsibility for your learning!
• Anna has been doing a great job following directions in Library. She has been very kind to her classmates and myself. Keep up the good work Anna! - Mr. Franecki
• Dylan has been doing a great job following directions in Library. He has been very kind to his classmates and myself. Keep up the good work Dylan! - Mr. Franecki
• Kam Ron really worked on cleaning up during Library. I appreciate it. He was a great role model for the rest of the class. Keep it up Kam Ron! - Mr. Franecki
• Logan did an excellent job following directions and being kind during Library. He was engaged and was really listening during read aloud time. Keep up the kindness Logan!!! - Mr. Franecki
• Skyler was being very kind and helpful to another student during our digital citizenship lesson in Library. He was reading to the student and went out of his way to help them understand the lesson. Thanks for the help and the kindness Skyler! - Mr. Franecki
• Kiyus has been challenging himself to write sight words such as "look" on his own.
• Leah has been writing! She draws pictures and labels the pictures. She is even beginning to write some sentences with snap words.
• When Carter was done representing his Counting Collection and was waiting, he decided to pull out a book and his ring of sight words. He decided to use his waiting time to work on finding sight words in a book! That is a great way to stay engaged!
• Rylee very kindly packed up her extra Halloween candy and brought it in to share with her classmates. She made sure each classmate had the same amount of candy so that it was fair for everyone. When a peer from a different class asked for a bag, she packed more of her candy that night and shared it with that peer. Rylee is very clearly a kind and caring person. Thanks for thinking of us and sharing with us!
• During a writing post-assessment AND a pre-assessment, Jazmine set a goal for herself to write a certain amount. Both times she pushed herself to achieve that goal! She has truly begun to write "long and strong" like we talk about. Way to go, Jazmine!
• Henry can rote count to at least 350! He has exceeded our end of the year goal of 120!
• Dora can rote count to at least 208! She has exceeded our end of the year goal of 120!
• Brooke can rote count to 200! She has exceeded our end of the year goal of 120!
• When a student came in late to an activity, Austin, Bentley, and Owen went out of their way to invite the student in and involve them. Way to make everyone feel welcome and valued! So kind!
• Ben can rote count to 120 and has met our end of the year counting goal. (3 awards)
• Wow! Besim can say and spell all of his snap words and he is fluent with his multiplication facts of 2's, 5's, and 10's. Way to be engaged in your work and reaching your goals. I'm so proud of you!
• Jaliyah can rote count to 187 and has exceeded our end of the year counting goal of 120.
• There was a basket of things that were scattered all across Mrs. Hartung's room and Egxon helped by picking it all up without being asked....because it was the right thing to do!
• Payton made the most terrific math representation! It had her name, a picture and I could clearly see she counted 17 gems! Great work Payton!
• I noticed that Violet perseveres in her work even though there are many distractions around her. She stays focused on her work and makes sure that she does it neatly and accurately.
• Leah can label a picture using beginning and ending sounds of words. She starting to write sentences.
• Stella counted her collection very carefully. She drew her representation neatly. Then she labelled her representation. Great job doing all the parts of the counting work!
• Jayden goes out of his way to include students and make them feel valued and important. Thank you, Jayden! You make Lakeview a better place!
• Eli has been so responsible with knowing what is expected of him during work time, and following through to get it done. I am so proud of you!
• Aubree, you are working so hard in class and asking questions when you have them! You are also doing such a great job helping other students when they are stuck. Keep up the great work!
• Laila took the time to help another student learn a new spelling strategy. She was patient and kind when teaching her friend a new skill! Thank you for sharing your skills with others!
