Hello Parents and Students,

Thank you for all of your feedback on the new newsletter format. I'm glad you like it and many of you find it easier to view than the previous format. I have also set the privacy setting to "private" so only people with the link can view the newsletter, which will keep our pictures private and for our eyes only.

This week in reading we focused on drawing conclusions about characters and events in a story, while supporting our conclusion with evidence from the text. We also learned about types of questions: literal, interpretive, and evaluative. We created a questioning "anchor chart" as a class, which is posted on the whiteboard.

We worked in pairs and used the iPads to research animals that are native to Wyoming, which is where the novel Stone Fox takes place. The students worked very well together and with the iPads, using great sites like national geographic and wikipedia to answer the research questions.

In grammar we continued working with nouns and learned how to form plural and irregular plural nouns. We wrapped up the grammar chapter with a fun Kahoot! review game.

In math we learned how to write three-digit numbers using words, and how to write a check (they loved that!). We learned how to graph two- and three-digit numbers on a number line, and how to round to the nearest ten and hundred. We learned how to tell time to the quarter hour and how to read time as minutes to the next hour. We also learned how to conduct a survey and each student collected results from their own survey question.

In science we did a "close reading" activity about clean water around the world. Our close reading activity is posted on the closet doors. Next week we will be starting our first STEM unit...yay!!!

Community Diorama

We will be making community dioramas in class on Friday, October 16. Please start collecting supplies for your diorama, including a shoe box. You may bring in your supplies starting on Monday. Please let me know if you have any questions!
