WYWLA WEEKLY UPDATE
October 22, 2017
THANK YOU!!!
PTSA NO FUSS FUNDRAISER
In lieu of going door to door to sell discount cards, candles, or cookie dough, this year the PTSA is joining the trend of offering the “No Fuss” Fundraiser to raise funds for the 2017-2018 operating budget. Our goal this year is to revive our cultural arts program by bringing new events and an artist residency to the school. We also want to provide more quality guest speakers from a variety of disciplines to motivate and inspire our owls. Additionally, we need to increase our budget for scholarships, field trip assistance, teacher grants, teacher appreciation events, and academic celebrations. To accomplish this, we need help from our WYWLA community and supporters. Please see the attached flyer to see how you can help. You can also donate by visiting the PTSA website. Click Here!
SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP
Calling all Shoppers!
Join us at Talbots Cameron Village on Tuesday, November 7.
Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy PTSA is sponsoring a Fall Shop Til You Drop event with Talbot's, located in Cameron Village on Tuesday, November 7. 10% of the proceeds will go to the PTSA, shoppers just need to mention WYWLA throughout the day. PTSA students and parents will be there from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m to showcase WYWLA and interact with shoppers. There will be a $100 gift card raffled off to a lucky shopper during that time. Tell everyone you know to shop at Talbots that day! Remember 10% of the proceeds will go to the PTSA.

GIRLS IN SCIENCE: FUTURE FOCUS
Girls Grades 6 & 7
Girls in Science: Future Focus is a special career exploration edition of the Museum’s popular Girls in Science Connect:Nature afterschool program. Each week, girls will meet a female scientist or other STEM professional, hear her story and engage in fun, hands-on activities related to her career. Girls will have the opportunity to present posters on their experience at the Museum’s Diversify STEM: Youth Connections event.
Running in 2018 in celebration of 25 years of Girls in Science at the Museum, Future Focus is an intensive, 10-week program for 6th- and 7th-grade girls who have shown ability and strong interest in the sciences, especially the natural sciences. The Girls in Science mission is to engage girls in hands-on science experiences in the natural world and in the Museum, and to create a safe atmosphere where girls’ natural curiosity can flourish.
Fee: $150/child; full or partial need-based scholarships are available. Fee covers all program materials, t-shirt, certificate and snacks.
Program runs January 23 – March 27, 2018. Meets at the Museum weekly on Tuesday afternoons from 4-6pm. Applications are due November 27, 2017.
Required Application Forms:
This application-based program is competitive, and we receive more applications than we can accept. A select number of spaces will be reserved for girls who require a scholarship to attend.
