Parents and teachers share a common goal to help your child succeed and learn at school. Together, we help create an environment that fosters and grows young learners. Communication is essential. We are looking forward to Parent / Teacher conferences in October.
Here are a few tips to remember:
When parents value reading and writing, your child will view them as important. Talking about the school day and what they are learning shows you are interested. Setting up a daily time to read and do homework, shows your child how important it is.
It is important to provide lots of encouragement and support as children learn and practice. Support your child in developing strategies to solve unknown words. Here are some examples for them to try before you say the word for them: check the picture for the word, use the sounds in the word to solve it -tap the word out, ask if the word makes sense, skip the word and come back to it to solve it. Students build confidence by solving some unknown words on their own.
Reading aloud stories is great for all K-2 students. It can be a fun time for each of you to relax together. This can also be a time when older brothers and sisters read to younger siblings.
