Beall Brief
Week of September 18
School Safety Drill Day- September 21
Throughout the year, all schools are expected to teach, review, and practice safety drills. In
the event of an emergency situation, it is imperative that staff and students know how to
respond to specific situations. Following practice drills, our procedures are reviewed and
discussed by staff, allowing for improvements to be made in our processes. As part of our
plan this year, we will be scheduling multiple drills in one day (Thursday, September 21). This will give us the opportunity to speak with students about the need to have different procedures based on the type of situation we are responding to. Our discussions are always in age-appropriate language. The safety drills that we anticipate practicing include:
- Lock Down
- Shelter-in-Place
- Fire Drill/Evacuation
- Reverse Evacuation
- Weather Related Shelter
Students will participate in bus evacuation drills later in the marking period.
Visit the MCPS Website for more information about Emergency Preparedness.
We understand that students respond to safety drills in a variety of ways. Please feel free to discuss with your child if you feel that it will help to understand why schools practice safety drills. We also recognize that some students become more anxious in anticipation of the day. Explanations of the process and expectations will be provided on WBEL (our morning announcements) and by teachers throughout the drills. Additional drills will be practiced throughout the year.

Share Your Feedback on the MCPS 2024–2025 School Year Calendar
MCPS is seeking the community’s feedback as it works to finalize the 2024–2025 school calendar. Please complete this survey to share your input.
Your feedback represents an important component of the development process. MCPS will consider educational interests, operational needs, mandated school closures by state law, compliance with minimum instructional days and credit hour requirements, inclement weather and other emergencies, staff professional days and early release days, alignment with assessment schedules and more.

Join the PTA!
Please join the PTA for the 2023-2024 school year! Your support is critical for the PTA programs and events that we all love. The 2023-2024 membership form is now open - please join today! A note about this year's dues: In an effort to ensure that cost is not a barrier to any Beall family joining the PTA, we have lowered our PTA dues substantially. We are therefore kindly requesting that you consider making a donation to the PTA when you purchase your membership, to support our programming. A donation in the amount of $20 (individual) or $35 (family) would bring your total contribution in line with last year's dues, but any amount is appreciated. We thank you for your support.
