Villano - 2015-16
An Exciting New Year!
Welcome to Digital Citizenship 2015-16 at Villano Elementary! I wanted to reach out, just in case I did not get to speak with you at Back to School Night. It is going to be an exciting year of learning, creating, and connecting online for all Villano students. As we start the second year of this unique specials program I invite you to see what the year has in store for your student as we help them develop the thinking and digital skills needed in the ever-changing 21st Century.

Laws, What are They Good For? - 3rd Grade Curriculum
For students in 3rd grade we work on transitioning from the iPads at Memorial to the chromebooks and the 1:1 learning environment they help create. Activities in the class will have students look at their digital responsibilities as well as password creation, typing skills, preventing cyberbullying, and much, much more. To help support these learning experiences students will learn to use their Google Apps for Education (GAFE) accounts to create online documents, drawings, and presentations. Upon completion of this course students will be able to answer the question, "What makes a good digital citizen?"
Welcome to Digital Citizenship
We are a Comm-un-ity! - 4th, 5th & 6th Grade Curriculum
Students in their second year of Digital Citizenship will review and build on their skills from year one. The question they will be charged to answer is "How can technology help our community?" Along the way students will look at different types of communities and take a close look at the history of Emerson and the important members of our community. On the digital side we will continue to strengthen students' typing skills while adding image and video editing. In addition to the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) tools students will use the online tools Powtoon, to make animated videos, and Glogster, for creating interactive digital posters.

Odyssey of the Mind comes to Villano!
I am also proud to announce that Villano will be starting a new after school program this fall. The program is called Odyssey of the Mind and is a team oriented, creative problem-solving competition for students in grades 3-6. There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, September 24th along with a flyer to invite students.
