Can you find ten minutes every day?

Brett Berkman, Literacy Coach

Do you want to help your child succeed in school and life? Can you find ten minutes every day?

Remember, the ten minutes can be at any time or any place. Here are some tips for adding ten minutes of reading to your child’s day.

  • Bring a book with you! You can read anywhere.

  • Set a family routine for reading. For example, your family can decide to always read before bed.

  • Let your child see YOU reading. If you read, they will want to read too!

  • Make a reading nook in your house (see Notes from the Office October 23, 2019)

  • Keep a list of books your child wants to read next.

  • Have a family reading time. Everyone reads.

  • Go to the library or bookstore as a family outing.

I’d love to see you reading at home! Take pictures and send them to

care and share

The Jane Shapiro Care and Share began in 1995 as a Dunning School community service project. Each month a specific food item is collected at the school to help keep A Place to Turn's shelves stocked. What a great sharing and learning project! Donations are gathered up by the students and then with help from staff, they are delivered to A Place to Turn. Learn more about A Place to Turn here.

Thank you for your contributions to A Place to Turn during the year. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
