June bat news!
PCC has been busy monitoring bats in northwest Indiana. One of our members is using a mobile device that plugs into the smartphone. She is recording their calls with the "Echo Meter" by Wildlife Accoustics. The meter makes identifications of the bats by their recorded calls. Near Lake Michigan, we are mostly recording the Big Brown Bat. The recording software doesn't translate to this smore newsletter format so we're sharing another recording of Big Brown Bats from youtube so you can hear what the calls sound like. Other bats we've identified are the Hoary Bat, Silver-haired Bat and Evening Bat. (Special thanks to NIPSCO Environmental Action Grant that allows PCC to have bat recording equipment.)
