Weekly PIT Happenings
February 10 - 14
Last week
Last week I was in Austin presenting about your student and the work they are doing at UTT for the TCEA (Texas Computer Educators Association) conference as well as at the Texas STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) conference in Dallas. Both groups were very impressed that the students have earned 3 hours of computer science credit and are in the process of earning 3 more hours. They had many questions for me and what we are doing as well as for the pathways that have been developed. I truly enjoyed bragging on the kids - I know they are special and I think everyone else needs to know also :)
Fundraiser/Donation
Last Saturday, one of our Global alumni was in a car accident. A drunk driver hit her car, and she is currently in intensive care. While she is expected to eventually recover fully, she has a long road ahead of her. Tomorrow, your student may wear sweats if they pay $2. This will go to a fund established for Sierra Harris. We are also accepting donations. Please see Mrs. Fryar, our school secretary for more details. Thanks for telling Sierra "this is no sweat"!
Save the date - March 22nd from 6pm - 9 pm.
This is the annual PTO Dessert Night! For $5 per person, come to the gymnasium for entertainment and great goodies. Your admission will allow you all you can eat desserts along with coffee, tea, and water. There will be raffles, silent auctions as well as live entertainment and a ballroom dancing exhibition! Anyone is welcome and proceeds go to the PTO scholarship fund for all grade levels. This is a fun event and I encourage you to attend!
This week
Having been out last week I have re-evaluated the assignments the students had. The college comparison was especially difficult for them so I am using that as a completion grade only. I do not feel like the students had the necessary background knowledge to adequately complete the assignment. This is a good example of learning from your mistakes and I am discussing that with the students as well. We are going to move ahead with our interactive transcript and hopefully complete that early next week. Thank you for your understanding - sometimes the best laid plans can go astray.
