ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Over the past few weeks, we have showcased the work CCS educators and students have undertaken in alignment with our district’s mission and vision and the experiences we value for kids. Highlights have included STEM instruction, technology integration, and physical and emotional wellness.
Equity Literacy is to create and sustain equitable and just learning environments for all families and students. It highlights the belief that schools have a responsibility to teach skills to recognize, respond to and correct conditions that deny some students access to the educational opportunities enjoyed by their peers.
In First and Second grade - The focus for the first 2 months, then becomes added to our class experience, is using sign language to remind ourselves that we are all important. We work to highlight different learning paths of children as well as more differences that can be seen. We then focus on the growth mindset and how we can change our thinking.
In Grades 5 and 6 grade - students read the Benefits of Being an Octopus at the start of the year, introducing them to characters with varying life obstacles and “superpowers”. That experience sparked a desire for students to see characters in literature that not only represented similar life experiences but also characters who have different life experiences.
In Omega 7/8 - the team will be seeing “We Shall Overcome” at the Flynn Theater which “showcases repertoire from across the African American music traditions that electrified generations of civil rights activists and defenders with interwoven spoken word from Dr. King’s recorded speeches.” (Flynn Theater)
During the art block, there is an introduction of artists from a variety of backgrounds, styles, and experiences who all have different messages to share. This focus is being displayed through an interactive display in the hallway.
During the Tech/Stem Rotation students designed and created a virtual reality experience that would take the viewer through at least 4 scenes from their past, present and / or future dreams.
Over the next few weeks, we look forward to sharing more celebrations and innovations at CCS with you, including the areas of personalization, physical climate and social-emotional learning!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
WE ARE ALL THE SAME. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. WE ARE ALL UNIQUE.

CVSD PRESCHOOL LOTTERY INFORMATION
Champlain Valley School District School-Based Early Education Programs Preschool Lottery is coming soon!
The CVSD School-based Early Education Programs are now accepting applications for a random preschool lottery drawing for the 2020-21 school year. Our part-time, partial days, preschool classrooms are 5 STARs, licensed early education programs that provide play-based, developmentally appropriate environments for all children in an inclusive setting. Our curriculum is based on the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS) and Teaching Strategies Gold. We believe that a diverse classroom offers opportunities for adults and children to practice acceptance and compassion and also provides a broad range of learning experiences.
Our programs follow the CVSD school calendar. Students who will be age 3 or older by September 1, 2020, but not yet 5 years old, are eligible to enter the lottery for our programs.
All applications must be received by February 7, 2020 and are located on the CVSD website under Student Support Services. More information is available there also. Students will be selected via a lottery and families notified in February.
CVSD BUDGET MEETINGS
CVSD budget meetings will be held starting in November and continuing into January. Members of the CVSD communities are welcome to attend any and all meetings.
