What We're Learning
In class this week:
Reading: As our poetry unit comes to a close, we are learning about music and rhythm in poetry. Some ways to learn this easily is with "jump rope songs" and "patty cake/clapping" songs. Do you remember any from when you were young that you could share with your child? We'd love to learn them!
Math: Tick-tock! We're working with the clock! We've already learned to tell time on the hour, and now we are discovering the half-hour. You can help at home by having your child tell you what time an analog clock says on hours and half-hours, or have them show you on the paper clock sent home before the semester break!
Science: It is a first-grade teacher's most favorite time of year! Our science units will be revolving around living/nonliving, basic needs, animal characteristics, interdependence, and life cycles. We tie ALL of these units together while studying...CHICKS! Yes, that's right! This week, we received 15 fertilized chick eggs. We will study in-depth the life cycle of a chicken and observe our eggs until they hatch. Then we will keep the chicks in our classroom for a few weeks and continue to observe them as they grow. We are SO excited! If you have any questions about this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.
