LAND OF CONFUSION
ZOPF'S PERFORMANCE FINAL
SONNET
OH the lions Den, Why do you treat us so?
From starting at 7 in the mornig
For what reasons we come up with we do not know.
We all enter first block with our focus slowing,
A nap would help can we have on please.
Instead we stand and listen to a man named Tahlein
With a hand placed on our hearts they force us to sing.
The whole school is silent like we sing for the last time.
Our hands bleed and cramp as we slave.
Nothing for instructions , yelling and work,
Why do they not feel our pain?
While the evil grins surround us with smirks
Us 4,000 body of captured souls live,
We live in shadows and in slavery with but little privilages
V FOR VENDETTA QUOTE
" I, LIKE GOD, DO NOT PLAY WITH DICE AND DO NOT BELIEVE IN COINCIDENCE."
MY DYSTOPIAN WORLD
The world that we live in today has truly evolved into a dystopian society. Through all the advancing technology and crimes that seems to occur daily in our generation as caused our world to inherit the title. I believe that our world has always forced itself down the path of a dystopian society as things grew better, the more it got worse. Students are killing other students, and destroying school populations, while others blow up marathon runs. Where do these behaviors come from? I believe it is that these evil individuals get influenced by what they see media wise and in their environment. Music videos, video games, reality TV and even the false and hyped stories that our local news channels use to brain wash the week minded into corrupting our society. Also many of us will do whatever it takes to fit in with our surroundings in order to feel special and wanted. This is the where the formations of gangs and “cliques” become a factor of what poisons our youth. Disputes over money, power, social status and other materialistic items are also what cause greed to consume and cloud the mind of rights and wrongs. So I ask, Why do we rely on this forms of inspiration to make us feel free when they really make us blind and confused. It’s honestly creating a mindless crowd of followers that can’t choose the right way for themselves. Sort of like the Germans of WW2 under the influence of Hitler, UK under control of the High Consular in the film V For Vendetta, or the thoughtpolice in the story 1984
One occurring issue that our world and society is being corrupted by would be our love and devotion to social medias. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook , etc. are all time consumption devices used to influence its users and cause them to form an obsession. The internet is a totally different world outside of the real one. Individuals can live a real life, but then live an entirely different one on the internet. Many use fake profiles and images in order to gain the attention of someone else. This is a common issue with the media today. Another issue that is occurring on a daily basis is the fact that social media is not only a whole other world of illusions and misconceptions, but social media has also been evolved into a battleground for the unfriendly and attention seekers to bully up on the lonely and non-social users. This process is called cyber bullying. The internet is also a place used for sending messages whether they are harmful, helpful, or just flat out embarrassing. An example of this would be how Terrorist use the internet to send terrifying videos of them torturing someone else to gain the attention of another nation. Similar to how in 1984, there is a period called "2 minutes of hate", where everyone turns on their television to see a negative tribute of a man named Emmanuel Goldstien that is shown committing numerous thought crimes. Others post videos of local fights and altercations that many online users might find entertaining but can be fatal to the person being assaulted or targeted in the video. Now there aren't any morals in our world today. In reality the world is corrupted by money and what our televisions and video game consoles tell us, and in the cyber world of the internet, people damage our society through a keyboard and behind a computer screen.
LAND OF CONFUSION by : Disturbed
This song is about how another hitler is taking over the world and causing distruction in every part of the globe. Therefore humanity has to turn to a stranger with the fighting potential to free them all! This song relates to a dystopian society because of the scenery and situation that the people are faced with. The citizens are having to hide in the shadows from the corrupted government that has spread his ways of living in every section of the world. Cities and villages across the globe are being destroyed and no one knows hows to retaliate. Until one stranger comes and decides to change the fate of the world and rebel against the government. Similar to how Winston from 1984 pursues a life to be different and defy the governments laws. After the stranger finds a way to stop the government, he raises an army of the wounded and scared people of the world to go to war against the government and his army. Once the government is finally stop, the light of the sun breaks the thick dark clouds and restores a feeling of relief to the world.
Song lyrics: I must have dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street
Now, did you read the news today?
They say the danger has gone away
But I can see the fire's still alight
They're burning into the night
There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in
Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour
This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in
I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago
I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep
There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go round
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?
Now, this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for
This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to
