Spelling

Look for spelling words in the backpack on Monday. Last week we learned about contractions such as I'm, don't, he'll. Contractions combine two words into one by removing letters and replacing with an apostrophe. Look for contractions in your student's spelling list. Help your student be aware of contractions around you! We've found them in our poems and guided reading books.

Food Drive!

From March 16 through March 27, Bryant and Pattengill will be joining the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor to benefit Food Gatherers and fight summer hunger. Collection boxes are outside the office door. Items needed include:

  • canned meats/tuna
  • soups/stews
  • personal care items
  • canned fruit
  • baby food
  • soap/shampoo
  • diapers
  • formula

Fact Triangles

Wondering what to do with all the triangles coming home with the homework? They can be used as flashcards. Once your child has cut them out, you can cover the top of the triangle with your finger and your child must figure out the sum. Or, cover a lower corner and your student is finding the answer to a subtraction fact.

Volunteer Appreciation

Teachers would like to express their sincere gratitude for all you do throughout the year in supporting classrooms and students. All volunteers from Bryant and Pattengill are invited to attend on March 31 from 6:30 to 8:00 at Pattengill. There will be a salad bar and light refreshments. Also, you can enter a raffle for themed gift baskets. Whether you are a PTO member, have helped in the classroom, or chaperoned a field trip, we hope to see you there!

"How To" Books

Last week, in Writer's Workshop students made an "expert list" of things they know how to do, or make, or play very well. We will be selecting one of these topics to plan out a "How to" book. Soon we'll begin writing the steps and procedures. This is an exciting change for our class, as we move from writing "small moment" stories to writing informational text.

Report Cards

Report cards were sent home in a large manilla envelope. Please sign and return this envelope, it will be used again in June. Questions about the report card? Please don't hesitate to ask. If you would like a conference regarding your child's progress, I'm happy to schedule one with you.

International Festival - April 23

This year’s International Festival is at Bryant Elementary on Thursday, April 23 from 6:00-7:30pm. Please join us for entertainment, food, games, a raffle, and more. We need volunteers to make this event a success! Click here to print and fill out the volunteer form if you are able to help. Thank you, Mrs. Lim lims@aaps.k12.mi.us

Parent Lending Library

The Parent Lending Library is a free service to Bryant/Pattengill parents. The Library will now be open on Monday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:00 am, in the Bryant main lobby. If you have any borrowed books, please return them to the office or to your child’s teacher. You may select books at your child’s reading level, then return the books the following week and borrow more. Thank you for supporting your child to be successful at home and school! Look for your child's reading level in the report card.
