DÃa de los Muertos
The Day of the Dead, or DÃa de los Muertos, is a national Spanish holiday celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November. This year the RMHS Spanish Club created an ofrenda located in the Main entrance, visible to all faculty, students, and visitors. This holiday differs from the American holiday of Halloween and celebrates both life and death. Family members decorate altars to remember their loved ones with food, flowers, and other important objects.
This event emphasizes remembrance of past lives and expresses celebration of the continuity of life. RMHS Spanish Club advisor: Sra. Beatriz Murphy, a native of Mexico, was very happy to support the members of the Spanish Club in their efforts to promote and spread awareness about this celebration. Many thanks to Ms. Susan Gilbert, who provided art displays for the altar. As well as Ms. Moylan for the display of Day of the Dead books. The Spanish Club extends its gratitude to all the teachers and students who contributed with decorations, fruits, baking day of the dead bread, and for visiting the Altar to learn about this cultural celebration. ¡Hasta Pronto RMHS!
MuchÃsimas gracias,
RMHS Spanish Club
