FDA approves first cannabis-base drug
(CNN)The US Food and Drug Administration approved a cannabis-based drug for the first time, the agency says...
Epidiolex was recommended for approval by an advisory committee in April, and the agency had until this week to make a decision.
The twice-daily oral solution is approved for use in patients 2 and older to treat two types of epileptic syndromes: Dravet syndrome, a rare genetic dysfunction of the brain that begins in the first year of life, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a form of epilepsy with multiple types of seizures that begin in early childhood, usually between 3 and 5.
"This is an important medical advance," FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in a statement Monday. "Because of the adequate and well-controlled clinical studies that supported this approval, prescribers can have confidence in the drug's uniform strength and consistent delivery."
The drug is the "first pharmaceutical formulation of highly-purified, plant-based cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid lacking the high associated with marijuana, and the first in a new category of anti-epileptic drugs," according to a statement Monday from GW Pharmaceuticals...…

Meet epilepsy survivor and model, Phylisia Slim
It didn’t take long for my mom to send me to the doctor in fact she took me the very next day to find out what was wrong with me. That was when I find out that I had Epilepsy. The doctor explained to me the different stages that Epilepsy had and the good news was that I was in the minor stage which caused me to have Absence Seizures. Which explains a lot of the things my mom saw me doing but I couldn’t remember it.
I’m not going to lie everything the doctor was saying got my attention especially when he got to the medication part. For some reason it throw me off; like why an teenager like myself have to take meds? Is it that serious? Lets just say; I shouldn’t have listen to that second voice. It didn’t take long; to acting like I was taking my meds to actually waking up to my bed full with urine and weak to the point where picking up my arms was impossible. At first I thought it was maybe a bad dream or I forgot to pee before I went to bed. But no! Due to not taking my meds I moved up to the worse stage which was; Grand-mal Seizures. I didn’t know I was having them until I caught one in front of my mom. That’s when I knew it was time for me to suck it up and try to get it control, which meant yes to the meds it is.

To My Professor Who Doesn’t Think I’m “Disabled” Enough For My Accommodations… by Away With Epilepsy Blog - Megan Megan
You see me walk into class every day, pick out my usual spot, and sit down. You see me sign my name on the attendance sheet. You see me raise my hand and answer questions. You see me participate in classroom discussions and partner work. You see me jot down notes like a madwoman all throughout the period. You see my assignments always turned in on time. You see my great exam scores. I’m sure you’ve also seen me “zone out” and take it as me not paying attention to your lecture. You see me pack up my things and leave your class.
You see a normal, healthy, 18-year-old college freshman and assume that I, being completely 100% normal and healthy in your eyes, don’t need or deserve my accommodations for your class. You don’t think I deserve time and a half to take your exams and quizzes, a separate testing room, my note-taker, my digital recorder, or my Livescribe pen. You see me as a freeloader taking advantage of you and the school’s disability services, cheating even, and you think to yourself, “how are they letting her get away with this?”
