March 2023 - John Dewey High School
A Message from Your Principal
Dear Dewey Family,
For this month, we should commit ourselves to action, through love, in the words of Marin Luther King, Jr. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
In our continued work and commitment to our monthly 212 challenges and our Love not Hate campaign, for the month of March, Love will be the attribute that we reflect.
Choose to learn through your love language. Words of affirmation by commenting on peers' work or self-affirmation using words to say "great job" or "I am proud of you." The love language of affirmation can be quiet or spoken. Acts of sense are another love language to simply hold a door or help a teacher, peer, or yourself in the day. Or you may choose to focus on quality time. This doesn't need to be a ton of time, but actively spend time with yourself, family, or friends and be fully present when engaging.
Invest an extra hour of study each week in the course that interests you know that parts of it may become a piece of your life’s work. By the end of the year, you’ll have
added the equivalent of one full workweek of dedicated study in your area of interest. This activity alone will put you far in front of the pack of those who only do what’s
required of them.
Be sure to look out for the QR codes around the building and in your classes to share these affirmations and become a part of Love Not Hate. As always, I’m looking forward
to hearing from you!In gratitude,
Heather Adelle
Principal

- The day begins at 11:45 AM.

Please follow the instructions on the form.
Please take the time to fill out all information in the form. Make sure all personal information, especially email address and phone number, is entered correctly when submitting the form.
You will receive phone calls in the time frame in which you will be available. Teachers will call you using a Google Voice phone number, or as an unknown number (using *67 to block their personal phone number). We ask that you provide an accurate phone number.
Please double check the phone number that you enter is correct before submitting the form.
Finally, make sure to answer your phone when you see an unfamiliar phone number during the time you have selected on March 23rd.
We are working hard to make the Parent Teacher Conference process as smooth as possible. Once again, there will be NO IN-PERSON Parent Teacher Conferences, as per NYCDOE policy.
There will be a special schedule on Thursday, March 23rd. Students will follow the schedule below:
Period 1 8:05 - 8:53

It is important that we work together to support your child through their high school experience and meet to discuss their successes, their challenges and to continue working together to support their needs.
The form will close on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, at 11:59 PM, so that we can ensure scheduled conferences with your child's teachers. Our teachers look forward to speaking with you.
2023 NYC School Survey
Every year, we ask all families, teachers, and staff in grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. The information collected by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn.
The 2023 NYC School Survey will close on March 31, 2023.
