Homeschool Open House Event
Classical Conversations of Independence, KS
Welcome to Classical Conversations!
We are a home-centered Christian education program that equips you to teach your child through resources and community support. We believe every child is uniquely and wonderfully made and that parents can be the best teachers for their children.
Classical Conversations supports homeschooling parents by cultivating the love of learning through a Christian world view in fellowship with other families. We believe there are three keys to a great education: classical, Christian, and community.
Come see what a community day looks like at Classical Conversations!
Thursday, Feb. 9th, 9am-3pm
Independence, KS, United States
We invite you to have a peek at a typical CC day! You and your children are welcome to sit in and participate on our classes and watch the classical, Christian model in action.
We meet for 24 weeks during the school year. Each week we learn New grammar, do a science project, art project, kids make presentations to their class, and then we have review time with games. It is a power packed 2 1/2 hours! We would love for you to come see it in person.
Please RSVP with contact info below
Foundations- 9:15-12:00 Once a week at 9:15 in the morning, children stream eagerly into the church building with their siblings and one or both of their parents. They hide presentations in their backpacks. They are excited to learn something new with their friends. Children along with one of their parents meet together with a parent-tutor to learn the first skill of learning: how to memorize anything in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Students in this program lay a firm foundation in history, science, languages, arithmetic, and geography.
Lunch - 12:00-1:00 pm Feel free to pack a lunch and join us.
Essentials-1:00-3:00pm At 1:00 in the afternoon, after the Foundations program and a lunch break, students grab their notebooks and pencils and head to a classroom to learn all about English grammar and writing with their friends. Essentials is a complete language arts program. Surprisingly, there is not too much writing during class, but there is a lot of talking! Students compose sentences and learn the rules of writing by talking about them (what we call the dialectic model). Parents learn about English grammar and writing, too, because they attend class with their students. They watch a parent tutor model the lesson so that they can continue the lesson at home.
Please send your RSVP to Erika Elmore, Director of Foundations/Essentials in Independence, KS. email@example.com. This allows me to prepare for extra students. Visit us on facebook at SEK Classical Conversations.
