Site Team Role Spotlight: AVID Elective Teacher
AVID Elective Teacher(s)
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and monitors students’ progress
- Is a well-respected instructional leader and has at least 3–5 years of teaching experience
- Promotes the use of WICOR strategies by all AVID students and in all classes
- Assists in the training of tutors using the AVID tutorial training materials
- Advocates for AVID students, especially with challenges of access and equity in advanced courses
- Assists the site team with Certification and data collection (including Senior Data collection) and gathers artifacts to verify levels of performance for the Coaching and Certification Instrument (CCI)
- Is an active member of the site team promoting schoolwide use of WICOR strategies
- Advocates and provides professional learning regarding AVID methodologies for other staff members of the school and district

Jefferson High School Recognized by Board of Trustees
SAISD recognized Jefferson's achievement as an AVID National Demonstration Site at the January 14th board meeting. Congratulations students, faculty, staff, administration and community!
AVID Schoolwide: Visitors from Little Rock, Arkansas
Whittier Middle School
Whittier Middle School opened their doors and welcomed three middle school principals and district support staff from Pulaski County Special School District as well as AVID Center representatives on January 15th. This school district will begin AVID implementation in the Fall of 2019 and were eager to see AVID Schoolwide in action. Thank you to Mrs. Talamantez and the Whittier staff for sharing your AVID journey and showcasing AVID schoolwide.

6th & 7th grade AVID student ambassadors as well as AVID and AVID Excel Elective Teachers Mrs. Gutierrez and Mr. Chaney greeted guests and shared their AVID stories.

Travis Early College High School
Visitors from Pulaski County Special School District also had the opportunity to visit Travis Early College High School. All students at Travis Early College High School are enrolled in an AVID class for all four years. Mrs. Arredondo and Mrs. Hanley shared the Travis AVID journey and provided best practices for implementation. AVID Student Leaders also spoke about how AVID has helped them in high school and college.
