Bully Prevention Month, Unity Day and Red Ribbon Week
October is Bully Prevention Month and we also celebrate Red Ribbon Week (Drug Awareness Week) during October 24-28. Unity Day is Wednesday, Oct. 19th and we ask everyone to wear orange to support being United for Kindness and United Against Bullying. All students are doing Unity Day lessons with Mrs. Hockaday this month to focus on showing kindness and no bullying. Students are also making a school wide Unity Chain showing ways each student can promote kindness. We will use Red Ribbon Week to focus on No Bullying and No Drugs. We have special spirit days that week to show our support for NO bullying and NO drugs. Our theme this year is One School, One Goal, Bully and Drug Free. Students have a pledge banner to sign pledging to be bully free and drug free. Students in grades 3-5 are making posters during Spectacular class for our poster contest at Wilton. Classes also have the opportunity to decorate classroom doors with Bully Free and Drug Free themes.

Student Leadership
Wilton's Leading the Way Team
Our Leading the Way Team at Wilton helps promote our Character Trait each month by helping with our school bulletin board, making posters, and sharing about the character trait on our weekly school news. Our character trait for October is Perseverance which is about working hard and not giving up. Let's all help our Wildcats learn about perseverance this month!
Wilton's Student Lighthouse Team
The Student Lighthouse Team is made up of twenty-three fourth and fifth grade students who applied and were selected to serve as leaders in our school. Our Student Lighthouse Team met earlier this month. They created their mission statement for the year: We will serve and lead our school and community by being good leaders who lead by example and serve with kindness and respect.
They also brainstormed ideas for tasks for the team as well as chose our theme days for Red Ribbon Week. They have also been busy leading our morning announcements each day as well as leading our Wilton Weekly news.
Wilton's PAW Patrol
Wilton currently has twenty-seven 4th and 5th grade students that serve on our Wilton PAW (Peers Assisting Wilton) Patrol. These students greet our students daily to promote a welcoming environment and help monitor students for safety. We appreciate their leadership each day!
Fall Festival Student Volunteers
We had seventeen students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade that volunteered as helpers at games during our recent Fall Festival. We greatly appreciate their help during this event! Way to synergize Wildcats!
Classroom Lessons with Mrs. Hockaday
All classes have participated in lessons with Mrs. Hockaday during September and October. All classes have had at least one lesson on bullying. Grades K-3 also began a unit of lessons from the Too Good for Violence Curriculum that focuses on learning to be Peacemakers - recognizing and understanding feelings, getting along with others, etc. Fourth and Fifth grade classes have been doing lessons from the Bully-Proofing Your School curriculum.
More Spirit Days
Students wore pink this week to support Breast Cancer Awareness. This week is also College Application Week and since our vision is College and Career Bound, we want to join in the fun. On Thursday, Oct. 20th we are asking students and staff to wear their favorite college shirt!
