This issue highlights learning about patterns. There are so many ways to build learning into your day and be ready for K!
Patterns, Patterns All Around!
Teaching your child basic math skills can help ease the transition to kindergarten and boost his/her confidence. Patterning is an early skill that is foundational and also super fun to learn for preschoolers. Recognizing patterns help children make predictions and develop reasoning skills
So, how can we teach our preschoolers patterns? First, you can point out patterns in your environment. Then, you can recreate patterns with your child. Finally, your child can make predictions about patterns. Here are a few ideas:
1. Find patterns in nature. Find spiral patterns of flowers, shells, and spider webs. Observe the veins and points of leaves. Throw a rock in the water and observe the ripple pattern.
2. Notice patterns on clothing. For instance, a red and white striped shirt may have a red, white, red, white pattern.
3. Make a pattern with your child's toys. Large block, small bock, small block, large block, small block, small block...etc.
4. Grab paper and crayons and create your own patterns! Create pattern art. Here is a cute idea from kinderart.com.
5. Watch this video together Mrs. S's Pattern lesson and help your child learn patterns.
