Silt can be related back to this chapter because it is what made Egypt suitable for farming. Silt is carried in the waters of the Nile River. When it overflows the silt is still in the water. When the waters recede the silt is left behind making the land fertile.

Desalinization is the process used to make seawater drinkable.
Desalinization is relevant to the Middle East because there are countries like Saudi Arabia that have no permanent bodies of water or rivers. They have to make use of the seawater surrounding them since they don't have bodies of water to get water from.

The Ahaggaar mountain range in Algeria contains many Ergs. Ergs are part of the Sahara Desert which is part of many countries in Africa.

It is a human-made waterway.
The Suez Canal was built in the mid-1860's.

The Berbers were the first people to live in North Africa. Berbers can be found in Algeria, Libya, and Morocco. Berber heritage has a strong influence on those three countries.
