The McKinley Parking Lot is far from perfect and we experience a high volume of traffic every day, especially at arrival and dismissal times. Please help us keep the Parking Lot peaceful and safe for all students and families, by being respectful of other drivers, all traffic signs and flow patterns and by refraining from using the designated handicapped spaces unless your are authorized to do so with a handicapped parking permit.
State Testing
Smarter Balanced State Tests Update
Each spring, students in grades 3 – 8 and 11 in the Beaverton School District and throughout Oregon take the state tests (Smarter Balanced) in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
In addition to content standards, these assessments are designed to measure critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. The test results provide you, our schools, our district and the state with information about how well we are preparing our students for their next steps including college and career readiness.
At McKinley, our students will take these tests once between April and May 2018.
House Bill 2655 permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. The school shall provide any student who is exempted from a state test with supervised study time while other students are testing.

Important information about lice
There have been a few isolated cases of head lice reported to the school recently. Head lice is a common condition. It is not associated with a lack of cleanliness or any particular life style. No one is immune from head lice, but outbreaks most often occur in younger children. Head lice are very small, grey or tan insects. They lay eggs (nits), which attach to the hair shaft, close to the scalp. As hair grows, they move further from the scalp. Nits are small, about the size of a grain of salt. They may be white, gray or tan in color. Although dandruff may resemble eggs (nits), dandruff can easily be removed from the hair. The nit is firmly attached to the hair and is removed by gently pulling on it. Head lice should be suspected when there is intense itching of the scalp and the back of the neck. The treatment for head lice consists of shampooing the hair with a medicated head lice shampoo. This can be purchased at any pharmacy. There are several products on the market. The pharmacist or your family doctor may be of assistance in your choice of treatment. The school office has additional information about the specifics of head lice treatment.
The school would appreciate notification if your child gets head lice. This assists us in taking precautionary measures at school. All information is completely confidential.
2017-18 BSD Inclement Weather Information
When the weather outside gets inclement, school schedules could be affected. The District generally makes inclement weather decisions by 5:15 a.m., posting them shortly thereafter on the District website and on social media. All Portland Metro area media outlets are also notified and announce the information on TV newscasts and online.
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability of parents and students to drive safely; and the ability of students to walk safely. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. (As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.)
