The Chapman Chatter
CES Newsletter | Week of February 28, 2022
Message from the Principal
WOW! Here we are headed into the month of March! Hopefully this means more sunshine and signs that spring is near. This week's newsletter is packed with student celebrations both academic and positive behaviors. Please take a few minutes to read about PBIS at Chapman, review our classroom behavior matrix, learn more about individual and whole class recognition and our most current data. For the next few weeks I will be spotlighting PBIS at Chapman and sharing more information with you.
Have a wonderful weekend!

PBIS - Chapman PRIDE
What is PBIS?
Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an approach we use to establish the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success. PBIS applies a three-tiered system of support and a problem-solving process to enhance the capacity of Chapman Elementary School to effectively educate all students.
Our PBIS team regularly completes fidelity checks to monitor our progress in implementing PBIS. We most recently completed a Tiered Fidelity Inventory on October 14, 2021. Our score was a 53%. We used the results of this inventory to develop action steps for improvement. Two of our action steps are: (1) Develop a school-wide system for proactive/instructive approaches to student behavior: outline expectations, how they are taught and acknowledged, logical consequences and continuum used to address challenging behavior, support available at higher tiers. (2) Develop a school-wide positive behavior reinforcement system that reinforces positive behavior.
PBIS has been shown to be effective in:
Reducing discipline problems
Improving overall academic outcomes
Reducing bullying behavior
Improving social/emotional competence
The behavior expectations at Chapman Elementary School are:
Prepared
Respectful
Inclusive
Determined
Engaged
These expectations are taught to all students throughout the school year. There are rules and procedures for all areas of the building. For the next few weeks, we will be highlighting our behavior expectations at Chapman starting with classroom expectations.

STAND UP IN STRONGSVILLE LLS Fundraiser
Strongsville Families,
I am beyond excited to announce that Strongsville is participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS), “Students of the Year” campaign for 2022. I was nominated to lead this challenge by my high school Athletic Director and the Principal of my high school. I feel honored and so grateful to be a part of this amazing fundraising experience with LLS! I have put together a team of support to help raise money and awareness for this great cause – to bring an end to cancer!
Our Team name is “Stand Up In Strongsville”. Student of the Year program is a 7 week challenge between other high school students in surrounding cities in Northern Ohio to raise the most amount of money for a great cause – Finding a cure for cancer! Our competition ends on March 19th, 2022. During this 7 week challenge, my team and I are determined to reach our goal of $60,000 and raise even more! (All donations are tax deductible! WHEN SHOULD YOU KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL?
PLEASE DO YOUR PART. IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT FEELING WELL, KEEP THEM HOME and CONTACT THE SCHOOL.
In order to do your part in preventing the spread of germs, it is imperative that we are frequently doing symptom checks of our children at home. If your child is displaying any of the following symptoms, please keep them home and inform our front office. We will work to ensure that your child stays up to date with assignments and the teaching taking place in the classroom:
- A fever of 100 degrees or higher. This is one of the strongest Covid Symptoms
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Persistent cough or runny nose
- Loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
We need you to assist in helping us, by monitoring for these symptoms on a daily basis, and keeping your child home if they aren't feeling well.
