Lincoln Heights is College Bound!
Ellen McClay made sure her students know they are college bound. Fifth graders from Lincoln Heights Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina traveled to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Saturday to sing the National Anthem at the start of the UNC Women's Basketball game against Applachian State University.
Before the game, students toured campus. They learned about the University and college life from WCPSS graduates attending UNC-CH, including several who attended LHES. Students drank from the Old Well, visited several campus landmarks, and even got to pretend to be college students studying on a spring day.
Kindness is Contagious
In December, we celebrate the character trait of Kindness. To instill this trait in our students, a “Kindness Tree” is in the lobby of our school the week before break
The tree is full of tags with acts of kindness on them. Students are encouraged to select a tag and do that act of kindness within the week. Simple things like, “Help a younger student tie his shoes,” “Make your bus drive a holiday card,” or “Give someone a compliment”. The Kindness Tree is a huge success with 635 tags taken by students.
We emphasize that acts of kindness can be and should be done each day. As well as how good it makes the recipient and the giver feel.
