Fifth Grade NEWS
Week 32: April 27 - May 1
Learning Goals for the week...
Reading, Writing, & Social Studies
This week in ELA we will be reviewing drama elements and how to add stage directions to plays. We will also be working with Reader’s Theatre scripts and creating questions based on these scripts. We will then share them with others and see if they can answer the questions after we perform the scripts.
In Social Studies, we begin a new PBL (Project Based Learning) called Night at the Museum. Students will pick from a list of historical events to research and create museum exhibits on one event. This is a project that students will be working on for the next 4 weeks. There will be creativeness flying around 5th grade in the coming weeks.
There will be a Flocabulary test on Thursday, April 30th over the following words: bungle, compose, debate, evade, exert, exhibit, realistic, reassure, reign, and retain.

Packing an Earth-Friendly Lunch
We can help the earth by having less trash. Here are some ways to pack an earth-friendly lunch for our trip to the OLC.
* Reusable containers (Tupperware) * Cloth napkins
* Lunch box or bag (no paper sacks) *Reusable ice pack
* Don’t pack lots of little packages *Reusable baggies
The OLC provides water however; any additional drinks will need to be provided by the students. Please no sugary drinks or foods, as this attracts bees.
If your child needs to get a sack lunch from school, they can order one on Thursday.
Electronic Devices
Students are working on projects in language arts and science that require access to a computing device and the internet. We are allowing students to bring their personal device. This is not a requirement because we have numerous devices available here at school, but some students have asked to bring their own.

Keeping your Child Safe Online
The monthly topic for guidance curriculum in grades K-12 is Internet safety. In order to address this topic, guidance lessons in k-5 will focus on grade appropriate lessons on Internet safety. This will address the skills of decision-making, communication skills, responsible behavior, and interpersonal effectiveness. Please talk with your child about internet safety.
The district will host "Keeping your Child Safe Online" with guest speaker Aisha Saleem, Assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. This will be held May 12, 2015 at 7p.m. at the Northwest ISD Central Administration Building.
