Tamanend Connections
We Are Together Tamanend!
March 24, 2017
STEM Competition
On Thursday, Tamanend sent three teams to the 2017 Bucks County STEM Design Challenge held at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. Their challenge was to build an amusement park ride using K'NEX, creativity, and making it environmentally friendly. After collaboration, design, and planning, our teams traveled to BCIU to share their ideas. It was an amazing experience! We are so proud! Thank you Mrs. Brumbaugh and Mrs. Nagle for sponsoring our students.
Boomerang Celebration
On Thursday, we celebrated our Boomerang Nominees for the months of December, January and February. We commend our students for the way they live the 40 Developmental Assets, specifically "Bonding to School," "Service to Others," and "Interpersonal Competence." We thank CB Cares Educational Foundation for partnering with CBSD to recognize our students who are making good choices and setting a good path for themselves in life.
Nominate a TMS Student for March Boomerang Recognition
CB Cares Educational Foundation recognizes and supports the students of Central Bucks School District for living by the 40 Developmental Assets. This month's asset is Creative Activities. Young person participates in creative activities which have a direct impact on him/her and others. Their creativity can take a variety of forms--music, drama, art, or any other creative activity. Anyone can nominate a Tamanend student. Parents/Guardians, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, friends... the more students nominated, the more there is to celebrate! Please click here to submit your Boomerang nomination. Nominations are due March 26.
Friendly Reminders
This week, we shared the following information. We ask that parents/guardians please review these with your student at home. Thank you for your support.
Leaving Tamanend's Campus: Now that spring has officially arrived, it is a good time to remind everyone that students are not permitted to leave campus by cutting through the woods and car dealership. No students should ever leave Tamanend and cross Rt. 611. And finally, once students leave Tamanend’s campus, they are only permitted to return with a parent or guardian.
Third Marking Period: Due to the loss of three school days because of inclement weather, the 3rd marking period will be extended to Thursday, April 6 for all secondary students only. Final third marking period grades will be posted to the Parent Portal after 8:00 a.m. on April 12 for secondary students. The 4th Marking Period will begin on Friday, April 7 for secondary students. Please use the parent/student portal as a springboard for reflection and conversation with your student on their learning progress.
Spring Car Riders
With spring arrives spring sports. That usually means a new wave of car riders. Softball and baseball players should have reasonable sized equipment bags that they can carry with them on the bus.
If parents decide to drive students to school, please plan enough travel time to allow for safety and congestion on Stuckert Road and in our school parking lot. We are the reason for the traffic. Also, please remember the school zone speed limit and the speed limit of our parking lot is 15 mph.
The following is a mapping of how the student drop-off works in our parking lot. Drop off should only happen where the paw prints indicate on the map. For your safety and the safety of our students, please follow these directions and do not drop your student off on Stuckert Road, the Visitor's Parking area, or in the middle of the Main Parking Area. Thank you for your support and careful driving.
State Assessments
The following state assessments are planned for students:
- PSSA ELA, 7th & 8th Grades on April 4-7
- PSSA Math, 7th & 8th Grades on April 25-27
- PSSA Science, 8th Grade on May 2-3
- Keystone for Algebra Students on May 16-17
To prepare for the assessments, students are encouraged to go to bed early, eat a healthy breakfast and bring water, a calculator, and two #2 pencils. Students may not bring any unapproved electronic devices: cell/smartphones, smartwatches, ereaders, tablets, etc. For more information and frequently asked questions about state assessments, click here.
Tamanend Parent Council
Parent Council is an open meeting where all parents are welcome to attend to learn more about Tamanend Middle School. Parent Council typically meets on the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. There is no obligation to attend all Parent Councils and there are no elected positions. Parent Council is a forum for parents and school leaders to learn from and with each other, together.
At this month's Parent Council, we will hear from Mrs. Corinne Sikora on the topic of student anxiety.
