Weekly Newsletter

March 10th-14th

I'm looking forward to seeing you all this week or next! Conferences are scheduled for either this Thursday, March 13th, or next Tuesday, March 18th.

This Week in 123

We will be wrapping up our color unit this week. Look for our own version of Brown Bear, Brown Bear to be coming home in our folders.

In Reading, we continue with Unit 6, and will complete an inquiry project. We will learn about different types of diagrams and the information each displays, and then choose one to use for sharing our learning. We will look at concept (word) webs, flow charts, captions (to go with a picture), and Venn diagrams. Some of these we will even see in our concept book! We came up with some great questions for the unit last week: "How do living things become extinct?", "Why do we need air?", "How are plants and animals alike/different?", "How do people and animals interact?", and "How do animals grow and change?". One of these we will choose to answer in the form of a diagram. Our vocabulary word for the week is "tiny". We will review the comprehension strategy of "summarizing". Our high-frequency word that will be introduced is for.

For math this week there is a lot going on! We will start to count by 2s, learn about halves, and discuss time and measuring time.

Just so that you are aware, the district has updated my email address and it is now meinele@deerfield.k12.wi.us. If, however, you email me using my old address, moldenhauere@deerfield.k12.wi.us, it will still go to my new inbox...thanks Google! So there is really nothing to worry about. If you do have any issues with this, please let me know, but I don't think you will. :)

Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday. Please sign and return the envelope and the reading level chart. As always, let me know if you have questions, concerns, or comments. I cannot wait to share with you about your child this week - lots of good things happening here!

Your friend,

Mrs. Meinel
