Teacher Talk
Featuring Mr. Gregory McCullough
Who we are...
Please read on to know more about our Grade 6 Leader.
1. Name and position in AJAC?
My name is Greg McCullough, and I teach Mathematics, and I'm also the Grade 6 Leader.
2. Where are you from?
I am from Reading, England.
3. Family?
I am married to Ms Liz who is a science teacher here at Ajman Academy. I have four children: Maya (10 years old), Ezra (8 years old), Noah (3 years old) and Mila (8 months old).
4. Childhood nickname?
I was called Bugsey by my diving coach, and it has stuck since then with my parents. Even as a child I had a fascination with insects and bugs!
5. Favourite food?
Chicken Quesadillas from our school Kiosk or Ms Liz’s Jelloff Rice. That, I must admit is absolutely delicious.
6. Hobbies?
Reading and extending my Mathematics and Physics knowledge.
7. Favourite place in the UAE?
Jebel Jais in RAK. Mountains, in general, are mesmerising but with the scenery, calmness and of course the zip line, it is the number one on my list.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
Coming to work in a brand new country. I was nervous and excited about what I should expect. I was interested to know more about the culture and how the students are and the way I would be welcomed. I say is it memorable because all those doubts that I had swept away from the minute I started at Ajman Academy.
9. Funniest moment in your teaching career?
I am also a qualified Science teacher, so the funniest moment for me was the answers I would be getting from my students during their lesson. The things kids come up with!
10. The most challenging moment in your teaching career?
Definitely my teacher training and the first year after qualifying. Each student is different, regarding personality, character and academic ability. It was challenging trying to understand each student individually and how to cater to each one yet teach the whole class together. It takes a lot of patience and hard work to become a teacher.
11. Childhood hero?
Sir David Attenborough, who is an English broadcaster and natural historian. He has worked with the BBC on the famous documentary series forming the "Life collection" which talks about animals and plant life on Earth. I highly recommend watching this educational program as it also gives you perception on our planet Earth.
12. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
I love animals so either a Veterinarian or Zoologist.
I also love fixing and building things so an engineer would have also been an option.
We now know that if we need any favours from you, we can come to you first holding some chicken quasidillas and a smile!
